Ahana, Lekh earn grand treble

Patna, November 17, 2009: Lekh Raj and Ahana Pal did an incredible. Both the players earned a grand treble in the Braj Deo Roy memorial 58th Bihar state and inter-district table tennis tournament at the Bihar Young Men’s Institute here on Tuesday.

Lekh Raj of Patna won the men’s singles, doubles and youth boys’ singles titles while Ahana of Darbhanga claimed the youth girls, women singles and doubles crowns.

Lekh Raj beat Zunaid-Ur-Rehman 11-7, 11-8, 7-11, 11-9, 11-7 in the men’s singles final while partnering with Rahul Das, the former beat the pair of Rahul Kumar and Somnath Roy 11-6, 11-3, 6-11, 5-11, 11-3 in men’s doubles final. Lekh added one more crown when he beat Zunaid-ur-Rehman 11-3, 8-11, 6-11, 11-9, 11-9 in the Youth singles final.

Ahana Pal scripted the same story in the women’s events. Ahana Pal beat Paulomi Raha 11-4, 11-3, 11-5 to clinch the women’s singles title. Ahana Pal and Saiqua Parween trounced Patna pair of Chumaki Mandal and Dipali Sarkar 11-8, 11-8, 13-11. In the Youth girls’ singles final Ahana got the better of Priya Kumari 11-3, 11-4, 11-4.

Rahul Kumar of Patna bagged the junior boys’ singles crown beating Rahul Prakash also from Patna 11-7, 11-5 and 11-8 in the final. Ankit Kumar of Patna won the sub-junior boy’s singles title defeating Amit Kumar (Patna) 12-10, 6-11, 11-5 and 11-9 in the final.

Dr Himanshu Roy distributed the prizes. Dilip Kumar Gandhi, secretary, Patna District Table Tennis Association, welcomed the guests. Mukesh Roy, secretary, Bihar Table Tennis Association (BTTA), proposed a vote of thanks.
