Bihar’s hope for gold was shattered on the penultimate day of the 4th National junior women boxing championships at the Moinul Haq Stadium here on Friday as the three boxers Noori Parween, Priyanka and Shiwani Bharti lost their bouts.
Bhagalpur girl Noori Parween in D6-40kg group lost her final match against Udanshive Chanda Deepak of Maharashtra 0-22. Chanda was aggressive right from the first round as she unleashed shower of punches on Noori to collect points at her will. Noori looked hapless but she took the fight to third round before the referee stopping the contest.
Shiwani Bharti’s bout in the C14-57 kg was another disappointment for the strong crowd who thronged the venue to watch the final charisma of Bihar girl boxers. Shiwani looked like a novice it seemed she forgot what do next after several punches hit her face. Lakshmi Wagh of Maharashtra taught Shiwani a boxing lesson of boxing and captured the gold medal 10-0.

Bihar’s third hope Priyanka showed some what better performance than her teammates. She fought bravely. It was not easy for Priya, a Sports Authority of India (SAI) pugilist, to win a point against Priyanka. However, Priya won the bout at 4-0.
Bihar Government jobs for sportspersons soon
Off the ring, the day proved more than the elusive gold medal for Bihar as the Chief Minister Nitish Kumar announced government jobs for sportspersons, who bring laurels for the state in national and international-level championships.
Chief Minister was addressing the prize distribution function on the penultimate day of the meet. He asked the concerned officials to formulate a policy in this regard.
He said his government would launch special scheme for boys and girls, who perform remarkably well in national and international tournaments. Under the scheme, government would take care of education and sports training of the players.
The Chief Minister asked Human Resource Development secretary Anjani Kumar Singh to make a comprehensive plan for promotion of sports at school level.
He also announced that international standard boxing rings would be installed in every districts of Bihar. The first of such rings would be installed in Patna soon, he added.
Bihar Chief Minister gave away the medals of the first three finals in glittering ceremony. Bihar’s Disaster Management Minister Devesh Chandra Thakur was the guest of honour while DRM, Danapur Gyan Prakash was the special guest. Nitish Kumar also felicitated Indian Boxing Federation officials.
