National junior women boxing begins




Patna, November 10, 2009:
Surya Clinic 4th National junior women boxing championships got off to a flying start at the Moinul Haq Stadium here on Tuesday with top-line boxers moving into the second round without much hiccups.

Rakshata of Goa won the opening bout of the tournament against Sibani Saha of Orissa in round two on RSC (Referee Stops Contest) by 15-0 in the 38kg section.

Bengal girl Simmi started her campaign in style defeating Shangmo (Nagaland) by WP in the 38 kg section. Susmi Gorh of Assam proved too tough for Geeta Rani 20-0 while Asmita of Maharashtra beat Shivani of Himachal Pradesh 19-2.

Earlier, Bihar Governor Debanand Konwar inaugurated the five-day tournament in a colourful function. He stressed the need of national-level sports hostel in Patna.

Bihar Legislative Council chairman Tara Kant Jha, who was the guest of honour, donated Rs 50,000 to organising committee from his fund. Bihar Sports Minister Ranu Devi presided over the function while DRM, Danapur, Gyan Prakash was the special guests at the opening function. HRD secretary Anjani Kumar Singh welcomed the guests while organizing president Dinesh proposed a vote of thanks.
