KOLKATA, November 6: India won a bronze medal in the women’s compound bow team event on the final day of the four-day archery competition of the 3rd Asian Indoor Games at the Haiphong Youth Gymnasium in Hanoi (Vietnam) on Friday.
The Indian trio, comprising Bheigyabati Chanu, Sakro Besra and Vrushali Gorly) lost to Iran in the semifinals at 224-225 but managed to beat host Vietnam in the bronze medal play-off at 226-218 to win the lone medal from archery.
India, however, was not lucky in two other team events where it reached the semifinals.
In the men’s recurve division, the Indian threesome of Rajib Basumatary, Gurucharan Besra and Nanavath Ravinder, lost to Korea in the semifinals at 229-235 and in the bronze medal play-off against Iran India was unlucky to lose in tie-breaker.
The two teams tied 230-230 and in the tie-breaker, Iranians scored 29 points as against Indian’s 28.In the men’s compound event, the Indian team, consisting of M. Chinglensana Luwang, Abhishek Verma and L. Haridas Singh, fell to Thailand in the semifinals at 224-225. And in the bronze medal play-off they lost to Vietnam at 216-220.
On Thursday, Changlensana too finished fourth losing the bronze medal play-off to an Iranian archer.
