Chaturbhuj soccer: Jamshedpur Sporting in semis

Jamshedpur Sporting Association edged out Muzaffarpur Police 6-5 via tie-breaker in the opening match of the 18th All-India Chaturbhuj Ram football tournament at Khudiram Bose Stadium in Muzaffarpur on Thursday.

With this win, Jamshedpur club entered the semi-final of the eight-team event that began with a colourful function. District Magistrate Vipin Kumar and DDC Md Nayeem Akhtar inaugurated the tournament jointly.

Jamshedpur boys were on the attack right from the word go. In the first 10 minutes of the play, they missed two near scoring chances. Muzaffarpur Police goalkeeper Md Javed saved a power-packed shot unleashed by Sushil Hembrum off a crisp pass from Shakti on the right flank in the very third minute of the game.

Police striker Amit Kumar too miffed a chance in the 25th minute. At the breather, both the teams were locked goalless.

Police striker Amit Kumar, however, amended his mistake and scored the first goal of the match in the 68th miniute to guide his side to 1-0 lead.

Stung by this reverse, Jamshedpur boys regrouped themselves and fired barrage of attacks on rival citadel. Anup Gpoi brought the equalizer at the closing stage of the match 1-1.

In the tie-breaker, Jamshedpur netted five while Muzaffarpur scored four goals. Ranjit, Shakti, Govind Prasad Soren, Wish hembrum and Shayamal Sardar found the target for Jamshedpur while Chhotelal Sharma, Raj Kumar Oraon, Dheeraj Kumar, Amit Kumar and Anuj Kumar struck goals.
