BCA T20 tournament: Bhagalpur, Samastipur win

Bhagalpur and Samastipur opened their campaign in style winning their respective quarter-final league pool matches of the Bihar Cricket Association (BCA) Twenty20 inter-district tournament at Rajendra Stadium in Chapra on Sunday.

In the first match of the day, Bhagalpur trounced Muzaffapur by five wickets while Samastipur fought hard to beat Aurangabad by three wickets in the second match.

Batting first Muzaffarpur made 115 runs off 18.2 overs. Sushant (34) and Pawan (31) were the notable run-getters. Bhagalpur bowler Rahul did the damage claiming four wickets for 16 runs. Shekhar took three wickets for 11 runs.

In reply, Bhagalpur achieved the target losing five wickets. Sandeep top scored with 44 runs while Vikash chipped in 39 runs. Rahul was named man of the match.

The second match of the day saw Aurangabad crumbling to 100 for the loss of seven wickets of stipulated 20 overs. Vishal (18), Asif (17) and Prakash (16) came a bit good with the bat. Giridhar destroyed the Aurangabad innings taking four wickets for 12 runs.

In reply, Samastipur too struggled to put runs on the board. Rakesh (21), Sumit (12), Brajesh (12) and Vibhuti (11 not out) were the important contributors. Prakash bowled heart out to capture four wickets for 11 runs. He was later declared man of the match.

Earlier, Bihar Cricket Association secretary Ajay Narain Sharma inaugurated the match. A dozen of BCA office-bearers including Salim Parwez, Vibhuti Narain Sharma, Awdhesh Sahay, Sursh Kumar Singh, Shashi Bhushan Pal, Ismail, Dinesh Parvat, Munendra Singh, Keshar Anwar and Sagir Anwar were present at the opening function.

Brief scores: Muzaffarpur: 115 all out off 18.2 overs (Sushant 24, Pawan 31, Rahul 4 for 16, Shekhar 3 for 11). Bhagalpur: 118 for five off 16 overs (Vikash 39, Sandeep 44, Rahul 10).

Aurangabad: 100 for 7 off 20 overs (Vishal 18, Asif 17, Prakash 16, Giridhar 4 for 12).
Samastipur: 101 for 7 off 17.3 overs (Prabhat 22, Rakesh 21, Sumit 32).
