Hosts AG, Bihar will lock horns with AG, West Bengal for the crown in the IA and ID East Zone volleyball championship at the newly built Mahalekhakar Bhawan courts here.
The four-team event got off to a flying start as Bihar edged out defending champions Orissa 25-18, 25-21, 23-25 and 25-20 in the first match and the first semi-final of the day. West Bengal thrashed Jharkhand in straight sets 25-22, 25-20 and 25-13 in the second semi-final to set up final showdown with Bihar.
Bihar’s ace striker Shambhu Sharan Singh stole the limelight with his thundering smashes. He virtually single-handedly guided his side to victory. Bihar team captain Ajay Rai did his job well. Orissa's lifter Praveen Kumar worked hard through out the match but his efforts were not enough to see his team through.
Earlier, DN Gautam, DGP (Bihar) inaugurated the championship hoisting flag and releasing balloons and pigeons.Praveen Kumar, Deputy Accountant general and organising secretary, welcomed the guests. Captain of the Bihar Ajay Kumar Rai administrated the oath to participating teams. Chief Accountant General Arun Kumar Singh and Accountant General IDM Dhariwal addressed the function.
