Civil Services carrom: Fluent win for Bihar


Patna, November 22, 2008
Bihar Secretariat began their campaign in style defeating Jharkhand 3-0 in the men’s team championships event of the All-India Civil Services carrom championships at the Secretariat Badminton Hall here on Friday.

Bihar’s Alok Kumar, Khushi Gopal Kamath won their respective singles matches easily while the pair of Sujit and Jagdish increased the victory margin winning the doubles match.

Earlier, Bihar Chief Secretary RJM Pillay inaugurated the tournament in a colourful opening function, marked by the march past of the participating teams.

Twenty five men and 14 women teams have been taking part in the meet.
The tournament is being organized with eight pools in the men’s section and four pools in the women’s section. One men’s team from each pool will qualify for the quarter-finals while one team from each pool will make the semi-final line up for the women’s section. Hosts Bihar men have been placed in pool G.

Bihar Secretariat beat Jharkhand Secretariat 3-0 (Alok Kumar beat Anil Kumar 25-5, 25-0, Khushi Gopal Kamath beat Manoj Kumar 25-0, 25-0, Sujit and Jagdish beat Narendra and Manoj 25-12, 21-12).
Madhya Pradesh Secretariat beat RSB Patna 3-0 (Dilip beat Debashish Roy 24-1, 25-0, Mahesh Kashyap beat Pramod Kumar 19-4, 20-15, Md Rafiq and Anil Bantham beat Arjuna and Ratnesh 10-25, 25-10, 25-2.

Other results: RSB Chennai beat RSB Imphal 3-0, Karnataka beat RSB Bhubaneshwar 3-0, West Bengal secretariat beat NCt delhi 3-0, Delhi secretariat beat Chhattisgarh 3-0, RSB kanpur beat Orisaa Secretariat 3-0, RSB Hyderabad beat UP Secretariat 3-0.
