Civil Services carrom: Central Secretariat, Delhi claim men team championships crown


Patna, November 23, 2008
Defending champions Central Secretariat (Delhi) retained the men’s team title of the All-India Civil Services carrrom tournament defeating RSB Hyderabad 2-1 at the Secretariat Badminton Hall here on Saturday.

Central Secretariat began with a fluent win in the first singles as Sanjeev Bhatnagar despite losing first set at 11-12 won the next two sets 25-8, 25-0 and the match. Md Nasir of Delhi increased the margin in the second defeating RD Dinsh Babu 15-20, 16-12, 16-7. The Hyderabad pair of V Anil Kumar and VSNV Prasad beat the Delhi pair of Jaipal Singh and Virendra Singh 25-11, 25-15.

Earlier in the semi-finals of the same event, RSB Hyderabad beat RSB Chennai 3-0 while Central Secretariat, Delhi beat Central Secretariat Tripura 3-0.

There was a bit of joy for hosts Bihar as their pair of Sujit Kumar Sinha and Khushi Gopal Kamath entered the pre-quarter-finals of men’s doubles defeating Baroda pair of Avani Kumar and Sunil Kumar 25-2, 25-0.

In the women’s team event, Tripura Secretariat, Central Secretariat, RSB Kolkata and Karnataka Secretariat earned semi-final berths topping their respective pools.

Results: Men’s team semi-finals
CS Delhi beat CS Tripura 3-0 (Mohd Nasir beat Debashish Dutta 25-4, 19-2, Sanjeev Bhatnagar beat Rathinder Dutta 25-1, 25-5, Jaipal Singh and Virender Singh beat Jayanta Kumar Das and Samir Debbarma 25-1, 20-11).
RSB Hyderabad beat RSB Chennai 3-0 (R D Dinesh Babu beat P Sasidharan 25-0, 25-0, D Ravinder Gond beat B S Nagesh 25-11, 25-11, V Anil Kumar and MVSNV Prasad beat K Raja and N Venkatesan 25-0, 0-25, 24-4).
Quarter-finals
RSB Chennai beat Shilong Secretariat 3-0, RSB Hyderabad beat RSB Faridabad 3-0, Tripura Secretariat beat RSB Kanpur 2-1 and Central Secretariat (Delhi) beat RSB Kolkata 3-0.
