Samresh Singh of Uttar Pradesh had a hard-fought victory over his state mate Bhishmak Srivastava 6-3, 6-7, 6-0 in a first round match of the boys' under-18 singles in the All India Tennis Association (AITA) talent series championships at the Patliputra Colony tennis court here on Monday.
The first day of the meet saw five players from Bihar moving into the second round while two suffered premature exit.
Earlier, Dr Akhouri B Prasad, secretary, Bihar Lawn Tennis Association inaugurated the tournament.
Results: boys' U-18 singles (first round): Amritanjay Kumar (UP) beat Aditya Kumar Vishkarma (UP) 1-6, 6-0, 6-3; Sukh Simran Singh Pal (Punjab) beat Rahul Singh (Delhi) 6-0, 6-2, Pradeep Kumar (UP) beat Aman Kumar (Bihar) 6-1, 6-2, Ravikant Sahu (UP) bt Anish Anupam (Bihar) 6-3, 7-6 (2); Pappu Kumar (Bihar) beat Vipal Jain (Delhi) 6-3, 6-4; Ishan Priyadarshi (Bihar) beat Saurabh Kumar (UP) 6-1, 4-6, 6-4; Ishank Ravi (Bihar) beat Ejaz Ahmad (Assam) 7-6 (4), 4-6, 6-3; Balbir Singh (Bihar) beat Tilak Raj (Delhi) 6-3, 6-0; Siddharth Vishkarma (UP) beat Syed Md Danish (WB) and Sangam Raja (Bihar) beat Kumar Mangalam (Bihar) 6-2, 6-2.
