Bihar cricketers are back in action after a gap of almost nine years. They were in a lurch after the bifurcation of the state and consequent approval of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) granting full membership status to Jharkhand and keeping Bihar case in a limbo. Bihar got an associate member status in September 2008 meeting of the BCCI. The associate member status enabled Bihar start cricketing activities in under-22 categories. Now, Bihar under-16 cricket team is on the tour to Chhattisgarh, which also got the associate status in the same BCCI meeting.
In their tour opener, Bihar under-16 team defeated Chhattisgarh by nine wickets in the first one-day match at Raipur, according to a Bihar Cricket Association (BCA) secretary Ajay Narain Sharma. It was the first of the three one-day matches that would be played during the tour.
Batting first, Chhattisgarh made 174 all out off 43.5 overs with Shakir (43), Yashmark (31) and Kaisal (21) contributing well. Shasheem Rathore and Anurag claimed three wickets each.
In reply, Bihar raced to the target losing only one wicket. Siddhant Vijay played a glittering unbeaten knock of 86 runs. He was ably supported by Sanjay Kumar (83 not out).
Brief scores:
Chhattisgarh: 174 all out in 43.5 overs (Shakir-45, Yashmark-31, Kaisal-21, Shasheem Rathore-3/22,Anurag-3/36, Sanjay Kumar-2/23).
