The 24th Star India National sub-junior and Federation Cup tenni-koit championships got off to a colourful start at the Patna Central School courts here on Monday.The Bihar Tenni-Koit Association and the school authorities made the hour-long opening function a memorable one.
An eye-catching march past by participating teams coupled with cultural programmes put a force to the event. Acharya Sudarshanjee Maharaj inaugurated the five-day meet by releasing the balloons. Sanjay Singh, MLC was the chief guest in the opening ceremony. SP Singh, principal, Patna Central School welcomed the guests while Neeraj Kumar Pappu, secretary, Bihar Tenni-Koit Association(BTKA) proposed a vote of thanks.
Mukesh Roy, secretary, Bihar Table Tennis Association, Shashi Bhushan Prasad, president, BTKA, BS Nagraj, general secretary, Tenni-Koit Federation of India, Jagmohan Gautam, Satish KumarRaju, Abhishek Kumar and Patna Central School vive-principal OP Singh were present at the inaugural function.
Speaking on the occasion Acharya Suarshanjee Maharaj asked the children to be focused on their goal inculcating the mantra of discipline in every sphere of life. “Sports is worship and devote completely into it,” he said.
In the on field action, Maharashtra defeated West Bengal by 3-0 in the boys’ section while Kerala thrashed Uttaranchal 3-0. Hosts Bihar suffered humiliating 0-3 defeat against Pondicherry in agirls’ section match. In another match of the same group, Maharashtra trounced Karnataka 3-0.
