Kumar Gaurav wins Bihar U-11 chess title; girls' crown for Tanuja Bharti

Tanuja Bharti of Kishanganj won the girls’ title of the Bihar State under-11 chess championships at the Patna Youth Hostel hall here on Saturday. At the end of the fourth and final round play Tanuja collected as many points to emerge champion.

In the boys’ group, Kumar Gaurav of Purnia won the crown with five points after the end of the fifth and final round play.

It was a bad day for FIDE rating player Siddhant Gautam, who started as the favourite for the title. Siddhant lost two consecutive matches in the fourth and fifth round and bowed of the title race. Siddhant lost his fourth round match against Kumar Gaurav while in the fifth round he lost to Jitendra Kumar (Muzaffarpur).

All Bihar Chess Association vice-president Viplav Randhir, who was the chief guest the closing function, gave away the prizes. Patna Chess Club secretary Sanjeev Kumar welcomed the guests while Alok Kumar Singh proposed a vote of thanks.
