Karnataka crush Bihar 8-1 in senior women's hockey

Sonepat, January 21, 2011: Hosts Haryana and Maharashtra recorded runaway wins on the opening day of the 1st Hockey India Senior Women National Championship at Rai on Friday.

Star studded Haryana led by International Mamta Kharab whitewashed Assam 32 - 0. India skipper Surinder Kaur accounted for seven goals while Monika (6), Jaswinder (6), Navjot (5), Mamta (2), Ramandeep (2), Savita (1), Jaspreet (1) and Kiran (1) were the others who found the target.

Maharashtra trounced Tripura Olympic Association 25 - 0 earlier with Sonali scoring six goals, while Sarika, Harshala and Vaishali scored four each. Pratibha (3), Sarita (2), Nikhat (1) and Bhagyashree (1) were the other scorers.

In another match Karnataka beat Bihar 8 - 1 with Kulsumbi and Ponnamma netting thrice each while Muthama and Ranjitha scored one apiece. Guddi scored the consolation goal for Bihar.

The ten-day championship was inaugurated by the Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda.
