Devpriya, Dipti wear tennis crowns






Patna, January 15, 2011: Devpriya Jaiswal of Bihar toppled top seed Manoj Sew of West Bengal 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 to win the men’s singles title of the Deshratna Dr Rajendra Prasad Memorial All-India Ranking Tournament at the Patliputra Colony courts here on Saturday.

But Bihar could not repeat the performance in the women’s singles final as state’s hope Shruti Jaiswal lost to Dipti Shrivastava of West Bengal 6-7, 6-4 in straight sets.

Devpriya began her final assault in style winning the first set at 6-3. Manoj bounced back in the second set and claimed it an identical margin. In the decider Devpriya found his touch to pocket the set and the trophy at 6-3.

Results (all final): Men’s Singles: Devpriya Jaiswal (Bihar) bt Manoj Sewa (WB) 6-3, 3-6, 6-3.

Men’s doubles: Manoj Sewa (WB) and Robin Das (WB) bt Krishna Karsolia (UP) and Kamlesh Shukla (UP) 6-4, 6-2.

Women’s singles: Dipti Shrivastava (WB) bt Shruti Jaiswal (Bihar) 7-6, 6-4.

Women’s doubles: Dipti Shrivastava (WB) and Mohana Sarkar (WB) and Shilpi Jaiswal (Bihar) and Shruti Jaiswal (Bihar) were declared joint winners due to bad light at the score of one set all.
