Jharkhand register fluent win in Hockey India senior women national championships

Patna, January 25, 2011: Punjab, Karnataka and Jharkhand registered convincing victories to advance to the quarter finals of the 1st Hockey India Senior Women National Championship at Motilal Nehru Sports School, Rai, Sonepat on Tuesday.

According to information reached here, Punjab trounced Tripura 20-0 in a Pool D match with striker Ramandeep scoring nine goals including a double hat trick, while Vartika Singh, Kirandeep Kaur and Baljinder scored thrice each. Harmanjit and Manbir completed the tally with one goal apiece against their hapless opponents.

Karnataka thrashed Jammu & Kashmir 17-0 in a Pool B fixture with Ponnamma finding the target six times including three penalty corners and a penalty stroke. The other goal scorers were Saira Banu (3), Rakshitha, Laxmi and Kulsumbi (2 each) and Muthamma and Harinakshi (1 each).

Jharkhand routed Kerala 12-0 to move into the last eight from Pool E. Sarika, Sabna, Shilwani, Renuka and Anima (2 each) and Nikki and Punita (1 each) were the scorers.

In other matches Andhra Pradesh beat Uttarakhand 3-0 (Scorers Poornima, Vijayalakshmi and Bhavani), Maharashtra beat Rajasthan 4-1(Scorers Maharashtra - Pratibha, Harshala, Sarika and Sonali; Rajasthan - Navreet) while Delhi beat Tamilnadu 4-1 (Scorers Delhi - Minni 2, Meenu Hooda and Sweta Sharma; Tamilnadu - Jennifer Megala).

The quarter finals will be played on Thursday with Wednesday being the rest day. The lineup is Railways v Uttar Pradesh, Punjab v Karnataka, Jharkhand v Orissa and Haryana v Madhya Pradesh Sports & Youth Welfare.
