Sheikhpura girls emerge champions

Sheikhpura emerged overall champions with 33 points to their credit in the recently concluded Bihar State women’s sports festival in Bettiah. Muzaffarpur finished runners-up with 31 points.

According to information reached here Begusarai girls proved their supremacy in the volleyball event thrashing Bhagalpur in two straight sets in the final. Muzffarpu bagged the bronze medal.

In basketball final, Buxar beat Bhojpur while Tirhut Division trounced Patna Division 8-0 in the women’s soccer final. Bhojpur kabaddi team got the gold in kabaddi beating Buxar 23-16. Santoshi Kumar of Buxar and Puja Kumari of Bhojpur were adjudged best catcher and best raider of the meet.

In badminton singles final, Kumkum of Madhubani struggled hard to down Surabhi Kumari of Bhagalpur 21-18 for the gold. Sushma of Gopalganj had to be satisfied with the bronze medal.

In kho-kho final, Bhagalpur got the better of Muzaffarpur by an innings and three points. Patna girls displayed their superb skill, speed and stamina on the table tennis board to claim the singles and doubles titles. In hocket, Patna had to fight hard to outplay Bhojpur 2-1.

In the track and filed events, Veena Kumari of Saran won the 400m gold while Niti of Muzffarpur clinched the 200m gold medal. In long jump Archana of Nalanda got the gold while Priyanka Bharati of Muzaffarpur and Gyanti Kumari of Gaya bagged the silver and bronze medals respectively.

Muzaffarpur girls won the prestigious 4x100m relay race. Later, Bihar’s Sports Minister Renu Devi and former MP Dr Madan Jaiswal gave away the prizes in colourful closing function.
