Patna, October 14
Bihar’s Shivshankar brought laurels for his State as well as for the country, when this Chapra-born lifter claimed the silver medal in the 56-kg class of the Commonwealth Youth Games weightlifting event in Pune on Monday.
Shivshankar, in his international debut, had a total lift of 216 kg with 123 kg in clean and jerk and 93 kg in snatch.
Talented and energetic Shiv hogged the limelight clinching a silver medal in his debut at 2007 Chennai junior National weightlifting championships. The same year, the Bihar boy won the three gold medals in Youth National weightlifting championships in Imphal. His gold medal winning performance paved the way for his national call up.
