Hosts Bihar girls displayed an impressive and overwhelming performance winning the team championships title in the Justice PN Singh memorial 8th East Zone carrom championships here on Saturday.
In the title clash, Bihar girls outsmarted neighbours Jharkahnd 2-1. In the girls singles final, however, Bihar suffered a jolt when favourite Vibha Kumar lost to Jharkhand’s Khushbu Kumari 12-25, 0-25.
In the boys’ section, Bengal’s Raihan Hasth booked his ticket for the final. In the boys’ team event, Bihar beat Jharkhand 3-0 while Bengal beat Chhattisgarh 3-0.
Earlier, PR Kanth, deputy auditor general (Bihar) inaugurated the tournament playing a board with Bihar State Carrom Association secretary Bharat Bhushan. India’s Chess Queen Rashmi Kumari, who recently won the three titles in the International Carrom Federation (ICF) Cup in Colombo and Bharat Bhaushan, who was the coach of the Indian team in Sri Lanka, were felicitated at the opening function.
Results: Women’s team championships: Bihar beat Jharkhand 2-1( Kajal beat Amrita 18-15, 25-0; Sandhya lost to Khushbu Rani 5-25, 14-20; Deepa and Guriya Rani beat Manisha and Kiran 25-0, 25-10).
Bihar beat Chhattisgarh 3-0 (Guriya Rani beat Pinki Devang 25-0, 25-0; Sandhya beat Ankita Sharma 25-0, 25-0; Kajal and Deepkia beat Sushma and Manisha 25-0, 25-0).
Jharkhand beat Chhattisgarh 3-0 (Khushbu Rani beat Ankita 25-0, 25-0; Mansi Kumari beat Sushma 25-0, 25-0; Amrita and Kiran beat Rinki and Manisha 25-0, 25-0).
