Abhishek excels in Sambhavana School win

Patna, October 26, 2008

Abhishek Kumar took five wickets for 20 runs and then batted well to struck and unbeaten 70 as Sambhavana Residential High School, Ara thrashed BPL Residential Public School, Patna by eight wickets in the 24th Sukhdeo Narain memorial inter-school cricket tournament at the DAV School (BSEB Colony) ground here on Saturday.

And there was not a iota of doubt when Abhishek deservedly got the man of the match award.

Batting first, BPL boys could manage to score 121 runs off 23.1 overs with brisk contribution from Anand Singh 33 (7x4) runs.

In reply, Ara boys collected the required runs off 18.3 overs losing tow wickets. Kumar Dhananjay 26 not out was the other notable contributor for the winners.

Gopalpur boys lift volleyball trophy

Army School, Gopalpur (Orissa) won the Clsuter V Inter-Army School volleyball title defeating Army School, Danapur 3-0 at Danapur Cantonment here on Saturday. Army School, Ramgarh, claimed the girls’ crown defeating the hosts by an identical margin.

Brigadier PS Rathi gave away the prizes. P Vikki, captain of the winning team got the best player award while Jyoti Chabra of Ramgarh was adjudged best girl player of the tournament.

Khushbu bags 3000-m gold

Seikhpura’s Khushbu avenged her 1500-meter race defeat winning the 3000-meter tile on the second day of the Bihar State Women’s Sports Festival at Bettiah on Saturday.

Veena of Saran and Sugandha of Seikhpur followed the winner for the silver and bronze medals. Khushbu added a double when she won the 800-m gold medal. Veena and Sugandha once again were at the second and third positions respectively.

In high jump, Saran’s Sambhavi clinched the gold while Shanti Kanja of Patna won the javelin throw event gold medal. Rani (Purina) and Rina (Muzaffarpur) got the silver and bronze medals respectively.

Nishad women’s soccer

East central Railway (Hajipur) crushed Khagaria 9-0 in the opening match of the Prem Nishad memorial women’s football championships at Akshaya Vat Stadium in Hajipur on Saturday.
