Patna, December 19, 2009: West Zone clinched the men’s and women’s team titles of Oriental Insurance inter-zone carrom tournament here on Saturday. In both the groups, South Zone got the runners-up titles.
In women’s team event, it was a tie between West Zone and South Zone as both had won two matches and collected four points in the league. But West Zone was declared champion as they had beaten South Zone in the league stage.
Earlier, Devi Singh, director cum general manager (operation), Oriental Insurance, New Delhi inaugurated the tournament playing a board with Dhirendra Verma, general secretary, All-India Oriental Insurance Sports and Recreation Club, New Delhi. Sushil Kumar, Chief Regional Manager, Oriental Insurance, Patna welcomed the guests.

South Zone beat Central Zone 3-0 (Vimla beat Savita Sundar 22-0, 18-0, Bharati beat Rita Chandra 16-0, 12-0, Madhvi got walkover).
West Zone beat South Zone 2-1(Asha Nagpal beat Vimala 11-3, 1-10-, 14-0, Madhvi (South) beat Aruna Mayankar 11-0, 8-11, 6-5, Sangeeta Oak (West) beat Bharati 17-0, 8-5).
South Zone beat Central Zone 3-0 (Vimla beat Savita Sundar 22-0, 18-0, Bharati beat Rita Chandra 16-0, 12-0, Madhvi got walkover).

Men: South Zone beat East Zone 2-1 (L Mayadri beat B Dutta 13-1, 5-8, 9-4, Vikash Sinha and NK Niyogi (East) beat K Sundaram and Ganesh 5-3, 5-6, 9-0, Anantram Raj (South) beat VK Sinha 13-3, 13-6).
West Zone beat South Zone 2-1; North Zone beat Central Zone 2-1, South Zone beat North Zone 3-0.
