ECR, Danapur clinch Moinul Haq Trophy


Patna, December 13, 2009: East Central Railway (ECR) Danapur clinched the 61st Bihar State and inter-district football championships for the Moinul Haq Trophy beating defending champions Patna 4-2 in a thrilling final at DSA ground in Purnia on Sunday.

According to information reached here, ECR Danapur players dished heart-out performance in the final. They took commanding 2-0 lead in the first half. They looked like an unbeatable side right from very start of the game. Anwar Hussain scored the first goal for ECR Danapur in 15th minute. Manoj Kumar increased the margin in the 26th minute (2-0).

In the second half too, Railwaymen played brilliant cohesive football giving no chance to rival forwards to sneak into their territory. Pankaj Tudu of ECR Danapur was the hero of second half. The agile striker scored twice, first in the 67th and second in the 77th minutes to take Danapur tally to 4-0.

After taking invincible 4-0 lead, Danapur men let loose the reign in the fag end of the second half as Patna succeeded in scoring two goals. R K Mahto in the 80th and Durga Charanto in the 85th minutes scored the two goals to reduce the margin to 2-4.

Md Sohib of ECR Danapur was adjudged man of the match while Jiten Lohar of Patna was declared man of the tournament. Former MP Rajesh Ranjan Yadav alias Pappu Yadav gave way the winners’ trophy.
