Sourav Panja begins his campaign in style

Patna, November 30, 2009: Top seed Saurav Panja of West Bengal tamed Vijay Bhardwaj of Haryana 6-2,6-1 to enter the second round of Deshratna Dr RajendraPrasad memorial all-India ranking men and women tennis championships at Patliputra Colony courts here on Monday.

Earlier, Bollywood star turn politician and Patna Sahib MP, Shatrughan Sinha inaugurated the championships. Bihar Lawn Tennis Association secretary Dr Akhouri B Prasad was present at the opening function.

Men’s singles first round: Anshuman Dutta (Asm) beat Rajendra Prasad Rai (UP) 6-0,6-2; Robin Das (WB) beat Aman Kumar (Bihar) 6-0,6-1; Himanshu Mali (Mah) beat Veer Vasant Venkatesh (Kar) 6-3,6-4; Saurav Panja (WB) beat Vijay Bhardwaj (Har) 6-2,6-1; Hari Chiidambaram (IAF) beat Sanish Mani Mishra (UP) 6-3,6-3; Aditya Tiwari (MP) beat Saurabh Raghuvanshi (MP) 6-0,6-0; Shantanu Rajput (Delhi) beat Chandrashekhar Mohanty (Assam) 6-4,6-3; Pranshu Barthwal (UP) beat Gaurav Triphati (MP) 6-2,7-6;Rubal Shandilya (Delhi) beat Jhonny Benjamin (Kar) 6-0,6-1; Bharat Bhardwaj (Har) beat Navneet Kumar (UP) 6-1,6-0.
