Bihar win BCCI Associates and Affiliates U-16 Trophy

Patna, December 7, 2009:
A century opening partnership between Siddhant (75) and Shiv (62 not out) paved the way for Bihar’s stunning nine-wicket victory over Meghalaya in the final of the BCCI Associate and Affiliate under-16 cricket tournament at Shillong on Monday.

This was Bihar’s maiden title win in BCCI tournament after 10-year of banishment.

According to information reached here, Siddhant knock contained nine hits to the fence while Shiv slammed 10 boundaries in his unbeaten innings. Bihar raced to the target of 147 off only 24.3 overs losing one wicket.

Earlier, Bihar won the toss and elected to field first. Bihar bowlers Faisal Gani and Nishant Prakash put hosts Meghalaya in trouble right from the start with their fiery and probing attack. Both the bowlers took three wickets each. Kumar Rajnish bagged two wickets. Meghalaya innings ended at 147 off 44 overs.

Aningisiri Sen (33, 3x4), Ankit Kumar (22) and Sirijit Ghoshal (45,7 x4) were the main contributors for Meghalaya.

Meanwhile, Bihar Cricket Association secretary Ajay Narayan Sharma announced a cash award of Rs 1 lakh for the winning team.

Brief scores: Meghalaya 147 all out in 44 overs (Aningisiri Sen -33, Ankit Kumar -22, Sirijit Ghoshal- 45, Faisal Gani 3 wickets for 16, Nishant Prakash 3 wickets for 32,Kumar Rajnish 2 wickets for 19 runs).
Bihar 148 for one in 24.3 overs (Siddhant -75, Shiv -62 not out, Rajiv Kumar 4 not out).
