Patna, December 5, 2009: Darbhanga outplayed Eastern Railway, Jalampur 4-1 in the 61st Bihar state football championships for the Moinul Haq Trophy in Purnia on Saturday.
According to information reached here, Nani Babu Thapa opened the account in the 29th minute for Darbhanga. Ajay Kumar increased the margin in the 32nd minute (2-0). Ajay made it 3-0 in the 40th minute.
At the breather Darbhanga were leading 3-0. After the break Anjar Guraon swelled the margin to 4-0 with a 46 minute goal. Pawan Kumar of Jamalpur scored the lone consolation goal. Ajay Kumar was adjudged man of the match.
In other match of day, Samastipur tamed Lakhisarai 2-0. Aftab Alam scored the first goal for his team in the 50th minute while Sanjay Kumar increased the tally in the 82nd minute.
Earlier on Friday, West Champaran beat Aurangabad 4-0 while Mansi edged past Rohtas by 2-1. Kundan of West Champaran netted a hat-trick by scoring goals in the 38th, 54th and 66th minutes respectively. Pitambar shot home the fourth goal in the 77th minute. Kundan was adjudged man of the match.
In the other match, Raushan Kumar (6th) and Ismail Rien (48th) scored for Mansi. Rajnikant of Rohtas reduced the margin in the 89th minute.
Lakhisarai edge out Kaimur
Rajesh Yadav’s brilliant goal in the sudden death enabled Lakhisarai beat Kaimur 7-6 on Thursday. The match ended 6-6 at the end of regulation time and penalty shootouts. Dharmendra Kumar of Lakhisarai scored two goals while Amit Kumar hit one.
Imitiyaz Ansari netted two goals and Lavkush Paswan scored one goal for Kaimur. In the shootouts, both the teams scored three goals each.
In the other match of the day, Darbhanga beat Jamui 3-1. Shiv Kumar, Rajan Kumar and Ajay Kumar all scored one goal each for Darbhanga. Sunil Soren of Jamui scored the lone goal for his side.
Earlier on Wednesday, Rohtas beat Nawada 4-3 via in tie breaker. Betia defeated Vaishali 2-0.
On Tuesday, Darbhanga beat Saharsa 4-1 and Lakhisarai got walkover against Seohar.
