Patna Super Division soccer league: FCI pip Patna Police; BSEB hold SBI to a 1-1 draw

Patna, July 27, 2009:
Food Corporation of India (FCI) struggled to beat Patna Police 1-0 in the SP Sinha memorial Patna Super Division football league at the Patna High School ground here on Monday. In the second match at Gandhi Maidan, Bihar State Electricity Board (BSEB) earned a valuable point from State Bank of India (SBI) after playing a 1-1 draw.


In the FCI vs Patna Police match, the first half ended goalless. Balls were mostly confined to the midfield.

Makhan Thapa scored the match winner in the 60th minute. M Liyanbi of FCI was shown yellow card by the referee for rough play.

Bhuvaneshwar of BSEB netted the first goal of the match in the 50th minute. Trailing by a goal, SBI rejuvenated themselves and launched series of forays on rival citadel. SBI got a flag kick three minutes before the final whistle. Sunil Kumar took the flag kick and Manoj Kumar headed it nicely towards rival post. At the crunch moment, BSEB defender Irfan Alam committed a blunder by stopping the ball with his hand. The referee awarded a spotkick to SBI and Ravi Kumar did the rest (1-1). Irfan Alam was shown red card by the referee. Kabir Ali of SBI was also got the punitive yellow card for rough play.
