Semi-finalists were spotted in the men’s singles event of the Aparesh Ghosh memorial table tennis championships at the Bihar Youn Men’s Institute here. Leading the pack of four were Piyush D Gandhi, Rahul Kumar, Samir Chakarvorty and Utsav Rastogi.
Piyush D Gandhi caused a major upset of the tournament defeating top seed Somnath Roy 11-9, 10-12, 11-9, 11-8 and 11-6 in an exciting quarter-final match. Second seed Kishan Raj was also shown the door by Utsav Rastogi who won the match 9-11, 9-11, 1012, 12-10, 11-7, 11-4 and 11-5 in another quarter-final showdown.
Samir Chakarvorty beat Vivek Nishad 11-3, 11-4, 8-11, 11-8, 11-7 and Rahul Kumar beat Ankit Tarve 11-8, 11-7, 11-6, 12-10 to complete the semi-final line up.

Cadet boys’ singles (quarter-finals): Tushar Kanti beat Sagar Kumar 11-6, 11-9, 11-7; Ayush Kumar Bhashkar beat Aman Trivedi 11-7, 11-9, 11-9; Gaurav Nishad beat Avinash 11-9, 11-7, 11-8 and Gagan Nir beat Harish Rizavi 11-2, 11-7 and 11-7.
Sub-junior boys’ singles (quarter-finals): Piyush D Gandhi beat Avinash 11-8, 11-8, 11-5; Amit Kumar beat Rishabh 11-6, 11-6, 11-9; Gagan Nir beat Yash Anand 11-3, 4-11, 11-8, 12-10 and Rahul Kumar beat Vivek Nishad 12-10, 11-8 and 12-10.
