7th Inter-Zone National carrom: Rashmi upsets world champion Illavazhaki to win singles title

Rashmi Kumari of BSNL (Patna) won the women’s singles title of the 7th Inter-Zone National carrom championship in Siliguri (West Bengal) on Saturday. Rashmi displayed a splendid performance to outplay the reigning World Champion I.Illavazhaki of South Zone.

According to information reached here, Rashmi didn’t give any chance to her arch-rival Illavazhaki to win the mach in straight two games 15-04, 09-05.

In the men’s single event, lesser-known and unseeded Pankaj Pawar of West Zone defeated current World Champion Yogesh Pardeshi of Institution in straight two games 17-14, 09-06 to win the coveted men’s crown.

Pankaj scored a White Slam in the first game to upset top seed of the tournament Yogesh.

Women’s team championship: 1st place – South Zone; 2nd place – North East Zone; 3rd place – North Zone.

Final: Rashmi Kumari (Institution) beat I.Illavazhaki (South Zone) by 2-0.
