Rashtriya Sahara win 4th Airtel Media Cup

There was a strong indication, the way Hindustan played in the 4th Airtel Media Cup Twenty20 cricket tournament they could win the title despite pitted against defending champions Rashtriya Sahara in the final. Hindustan restricted Rashtriya Sahara to a modest 142 for the loss of seven wickets off 20 overs but while chasing the target their batsmen failed to steal the singles and twos and went only for big shots. It proved costly as Rashtriya Sahara emerged deserving winners for the second successive year.

The final of the 20-day long event at the Moinul Haq Stadium here saw Rastriya Sahara’s star batsman Nitosh Jha, who failed to click in the earlier matches, returning to form in the final scoring a brilliant half-century (57) and helped Rashtria Sahara retain the trophy for the second time in a row defeating Hindustan by 23 runs .

Nitosh Jha‘s knock contained five nicely executed boundaries and one six. Rakesh Chowhan (16) and Rajiv Ranjan (14) were the other main contributors for Sahara. Vijay of Hindustan took four wickets for 27 and Rahul took 2 for 24.

In reply, Atul Upadhaya of Hindustan played a sheet-anchor knock of 63 runs with a mix blend of attack and defence but he could not carry his team to podium finish. Hindustan could muster 119 runs for the loss of six wickets off 20 overs. Dilip Mishra (23) and Mukesh (10) were the other useful run getters for Hindustan.

Birendra Singh (2/19), Khurshid (1/18) and Bhashkar (1/26) were the main wicket takers for Rashtriya Sahara. Nitosh Jha was declared man of the match and his teammate Abhay Pathak the man of the series. Dilip Mishra (Hindustan) was declared the best batsman, Birendra Singh (Rashtriya Sahara) was adjudged the best bowler of the tournament.

Speaker of Bihar Vidhan Sabha, Uday Narayan Choudhary was the chief guest in the prize-distribution function and he gave away the prizes. Mohan Verma, vice-president (sales & marketing) Airtel (Bihar and Jharkhand) distributed the special prizes. Pradeep Modak, secretary, SJAB, welcomed the guests and Mirtunjay Tiwari, president, Bihar Players Association proposed a vote of thanks.
