Defending champions Karnataka opened their campaign in style crushing Madhya Pradesh 5-0 in the inaugural match of the 8th All India BSNL football championship at the Mithilesh Stadium here on Monday.
Earlier, Union Minister of State for Home, Dr Shakeel Ahmad inaugurated the tournament in a colourful function. The Chief General Manager, BSNL, Bihar circle, SC Mishra welcomed the guests. General Manager (Mobile service) RK Mishra proposed a vote of thanks. Bihar team captain Mahesh Prasad Singh, administrated the oath of fair play and sporting spirit to all participating team skippers.
The first match was a one-sided affair as Karnataka looked superior in all department of the game. Kadduravas struck three goals while Md Niyaz Bapri netted two goals for Karnataka.
Other results: West Bengal beat Maharashtra 3-0; Punjab beat MTNL, New Delhi 4-0; MTNL, Mumbai beat UP (East) 2-1; Orissa beat NE (II) 1-0 and Jammu & Kashmir beat Tamil Nadu 3-2; Rajasthan hold NCR Delhi 0-0 and Andhra Pradesh hold Gujarat 0-0.
