Hindustan Times Media Limted (HTML) registered their second successive win in the 4th Airtel Media Cup Twenty20 cricket tournament with a thrilling 3-run victory Prabhat Khabar in a pool C league match at the Moinul Haq Stadium here on Monday.
The victory saw Hindustan Times marching into the quarter-final stage of the tournament with four points from two matches.
Earlier in the day’s first match of the same pool, Quami Tanzeem knocked Photo Journalists XI out of the tournament by 70 runs. Aftab Alam of Photo Journalists XI bowled magnificently claiming five wickets for 21 runs. Later Aftab performed well with the bat scoring 15 runs but his efforts were not enough to his side through. However, for his gallant show Aftab was adjudged man of the match.
Batting first Quami Tanzeem scored 132 for 9 off 20 overs. Md Mushtaq (32) and Md Ashad (34) delighted the crowd with some loft strokes. Nagendra claimed two wickets for 23 runs for Photo Journalists XI.
In reply, Photo Journalists were shot out for paltry 62 runs. Ranjeet emerged as top scorer with 27 runs. Raj Ahmad took three wickets for 10 runs. Zeeshan, Md Ashad and Sandeep captured two wickets each.
Hindustan Times Media Limited collected 135 runs for the loss of 7 wickets off 20 overs. Aakash (31), Saurav (31) and Rajesh (18) were the notable contributors. Ajay Rai, Chetan and Randhir grabbed two wickets each.
In reply, Prabhat Khbar fought well. At one stage they were comfortably placed but a middle order collapse led them to face the defeat. Prashant of HT was the hero of the match as he claimed three quick wickets to derail Prabhat Khabar’s run chase. Prabhat Khabar could manage to score 132 runs at the end of 20th over.
