Patna, October 22, 2009:Top seed Manoj Sewa of West Bengal continued his upward march in the Hubnet AITA ranking tennis tournament at the Patliputra Colony courts here on Thursday. Manoj did not face any worthwhile challenge in his quarter-final match against Aditya Tiwari of Madhya Pradesh and won the match convincingly at 6-1, 6-2. With this win, Sewa moved into the semi-finals.
Bihar’s Devpriya Jaiswal too found the things easy in his quarter-final match against John Carino of Tamil Nadu. Devpriya dominated the match right from the start with his nipping serves and ground strokes. Carino could not do much and lost the match 3-6, 2-6.
Rubal Shandilya (Delhi) and Saurav Panja (WB) too qualified for the semi-finals winning their respective matches in contrasting style. Rubal sturggled to beat Farid Alam (WB) 6-2, 3-6, 6-2 while Saurav was too good for Vedant Kapoor (Delhi) 6-1, 6-2.
Bihar’s Shilpi Jaiswal moved into the women’s singles semi-finals beating Amreen Chauddhary (UP) 6-4, 6-2. Her sister Shruti, however, lost her quarter-final match against Rani Smita Jain (IAF) 6-1, 6-1.
It was a bad day for Sruti as she did not find her rythm through out thematch. Ikteesh Chahal of Delhi and Shweta G Khakandaki also made the lastfour grades in the women’s section.
