It was a good beginning for host Bihar on the first day of the 21st National sub-junior kabaddi championships at the Moinul Haq Stadium here on Thursday.
Bihar boys played an attacking game to decimate Kerala 71-02 in the opening match to earn full points. In other matches of the same group, Rajasthan humiliated Gujarat 35-11while Tamil Nadu drubbed Goa 49-20.
Earlier, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar inaugurated the 4-day tournament in gala opening function that witnessed colourful march past by participating teams at the beats of BMP-5 band and cultural programmes organised by Art, Culture and Youth Affairs Department.
Addressing the function Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar said sports and games play an important role in the overall personality development.He said Bihar government had taken a series of initiatives to develop basic infrastructure for sports in the state.
Bihar Labour Resources Minister Awadhesh Narayn Singh and Art, Culture and Youth Affairs Minister Renu Devi also spoke on the occasion. Amateur Kabaddi Federation of India (AKFI) president Janardan Singh Gehlot presided over the function. Kumar Vijay, secretary, Bihar State Kabaddi Association welcomed the guests.

In girls’ section, Chhattisgarh won a cliff-hanger 26-24 over Tamil Nadu. Maharashtra thrashed Uttarakhand 52-12, Kerala got the better of Jharkhand 26-14, Himachal Pradesh outplayed Gujarat 58-8 and Hyderabad swamped Goa 40-12.
Bihar boys took the lead from very start of the match in their first pool F match. Kerala boys looked like a disjointed lot and could not do much. Bihar scored 37 points in the first half against Kerala’s just one point.
In the second half too, Bihar galvanized their attack and scored points at their will and finished the match 71-02.

Chief Minister spent nearly two hours in the opening ceremony and participated in the all the rituals including Bhoomi Pujan. He was also introduced to the players.
