Neeraj, Rashmi are the best carrom players in Bihar

Patna, October 21, 2009:
It was an anti-climax of a sort in the men’s singles final of the 19th Bihar State and inter-district carrom championships at the Post and Telegraph Recreation Club here on Wednesday.

Much was expected from promising Jalaj Kumar of Muzaffarpur, who played magnificently throughout the tournament. Experienced Neeraj Kumar proved his is still the best bet in Bihar carrom. He beat Jalaj Kumar 15-0, 7-9, 14-0 to win the coveted crown.

The women’s singles final, however, went onto expected line. Former world champion Rashmi Kuamri of BSNL just toyed with Guriya Rani Singh 11-1, 15-0 to win the title.

Sarfarazul Haq (Barh) beat Nizam Ansari (Madhubani) 20-4, 17-8 to capture the veteran’s singles title.

Engineers Association chairman Dr AK Srivastava, Bihar Olympic Association secretary Md Mushtaq Ahmad and financial advisor, Bihar State Road Transport Corporation RP Kanth gave away the prizes.
Results:
Men’s single final: Niraj Kumar beat Jalaj Kumar 15-0, 7-9, 14-0.
Semi final: Niraj Kumar beat R C Choubey 12-1, 20-0; Jalaj Kumar beat Navin Arya 6-5, 22-0.
Women’s single final: Rashim Kumari beat Guriya Rani Singh 11-1, 15-0.
Semi-finals: Rashim Kumari beat Sandhya Kumari 14-0, 18-0; Guriya Rani Singh beat Kajal 6-8, 13-1, 12-4.
Junior boys final: Pawan beat Wasir Akhtar 13-12, 6-9, 11-0.
Semi-finals: Pawan Kumar beat Md Saddam 8-10, 9-1, 6-4; Wasim Akhtar beat Md Wasim 12-1, 7-6.
