Gaurav qualifies for the main draw of All-India ranking tennis championships

Patna, October 19, 2009:
Gaurav Triptahi of Madhya Pradesh led the pack of eight players into the main draw of men’s singles in the Hubnet All India ranking tennis championships at the Patliputra Courts here on Sunday.

Gaurav edged out Akshay Kumar 6-1, 6-3 in the third round of the qualifiers. Other players, who made it to the main draw, were Sanjeev Karketta (Bengal), Nitin Thette (Maharashtra), Aditya Tiwari (MP), Nagendra Rai (UP) and Devendra Kumar Yadav (UP).

Bihar’s lone hope in the qualifiers Aman Kumar lost his third round match against Devendra Kumar Yadav 3-6, 2-6.

In women's singles Fatema Packer (Bihar) moved into the main draw beating Sheikh Naaz.

In the final round matches of the qualifiers, Sanjeev Karketta beat Uttam Singh 6-2, 6-0, Nitin Thette beat Rajendra Prasad Rai (UP) 6-4, 6-3, Aditya Tiwari beat Shartlal MS (Karnataka) 6-2, 7-6 and Nagendra Rai beat Amarjyuti Deka (Assam) 6-1, 6-1.

Earlier, Aman Kumar of Bihar moved into the third round defeating Danish Hasan (Bihar) 8-0.
