Patna, October 21, 2009:Bihar’s Jaiswal siblings Shilp and Shruti entered the women’s singles quarter-finals of the Hubnet AITA ranking tennis championships at the Patliputra Colony courts here on Wednesday.
Shruti warded off a stiff challenge from Manuella Gomes (Delhi) 5-7,6-4, 6-2 while Shilpi trounced Seema Kumari (Delhi) 6-0, 6-0 to have a go in the quarters.
Shruti had erratic first set and Manuella capitalised on the advantage with a 7-5 win. But in the second set Shruti found her touch and broke Manuella’s serve. She captured the second set at 6-4. In the decider Shruti was just too good for Manuella 6-2.
In the men’s section top seed Manoj Sewa played another clinical tennis to beat Chinmay Pradhan (Orissa) 6-4, 6-4 and moved into the quarter-finals.
Bihar’s Devpriya Jaiswal fought hard to beat Pranshu Bartwal (UP) 4-6, 6-2, 6-1.
