Gaurav Kumar of Muzaffarpur clinched the Bihar State U-9 chess championships title with five points after the end of as many rounds at Sudarshan Central School hall here on Sunday.
Kritika Choudhary, also from Muzaffarpur with five points in her credit won the girls title. Gaurav and Kritika, both, remained unbeaten in this five-round Swiss league system tournament.
Saurav Anand (Purnia) and Amrit Verma (Muzaffarpur) collected four points each after the end of final round play. Saurav was declared second with 13 progressive points while Amirt had to be satisfied with third position with 11 porgressive points.
Kumar Gaurav of Purnia took the fourth spot with 3.5 points to his credit.
In the girls’ section, Shreya Sankalp of Chapra bagged the second spot with 4 points while Janhavi got the third spot with three points.
All Bihar Chess Association secretary, Arvind Kumar Sinha and Balbir Yadav, district sports officer (Patna) distributed the prizes. Rakesh Ranjan, secretary, Patna District Chess Association welcomed the guests and Rajesh Ranjan of Patna Chess Academy proposed a vote of thanks. Sudarshan Central School principal Neeta Singh presided over the prize-distribution function.
