Bihar boys and girls enter quarterfinals

Patna, May 25, 2010: Hosts Bihar and defending champions Andhra Pradesh moved into the boys’ quarterfinals of the Acharya Sudarshan 21st Junior National throwball championships at Patna Central School ground here on Tuesday.

Runners-up Delhi, Tamil Nadu, Orissa, Madhya Pradesh and Karnataka also advanced into the quarterfinals. In girls’ group, Bihar, Delhi, Pondicherry, Madhya Pradesh, Haryanaand Tamil Nadu booked their berths into the quarterfinals.

BMP boys, Patna Police Boys play 1-1 draw

Patna, May 25, 2010: BMP Boys and Patna Police Boys played a 1-1 draw in the opening match of the Patna Football Association super division league at Gandhi Maidan here on Tuesday.

Patna Police Boys took 1-0 lead in the first half through striker Shailesh Sahani in the 20th minute. Shahwaz equalised the lead in the 85th minute to make it 1-1 for BMP Boys.

Patna district chess from June 23

Patna, May 25, 2010: The second Shambhu Shah memorial Patna district senior chess championships will be held here from June 23, according to Rakesh Ranjan, secretary, Patna District Chess Association.

On the basis of the championship four players will be selected to represent Patna in the Bihar state championship. The last date for entry is June 20.

BCA names 26 probables for East Zone U-14 cricket tournament

Patna, May 25, 2010: Bihar Cricket Association (BCA) on Tuesday named 26 probables for the Bihar under-14 team for the East Zone tournament to be held in Cuttuck.

Defending champs Andhra Pradesh lose to Tamil Nadu in their first match

Patna, May 24, 2010: It was a sad beginning for Defending champions Andhra Pradesh in the Acharya Sudarshan 21st Junior National throwball championships at the Patna Central School ground here on Monday.

Andhra Pradesh boys lost to Tamil Nadu 8-15, 11-15. Hosts Bihar and runners-up Delhi got their momentum going in the other matches of the boys’ section. Bihar got the better of Orissa in a thrilling three-setter 15-11, 11-15, 15-8 while Delhi trounced Himachal Pradesh 15-1, 15-5.

In girls’ section, Bihar humbled Chhattisgarh 15-1, 15-5. Tamil Nadu humiliated Punjab 15-1, 15-0. Madhya Pradesh drubbed Haryana 15-0, 15-3. Pondicherry slammed Jammu and Kashmir 15-2, 15-5 while Delhi beat Uttar Pradesh 15-0, 15-5.

In the other encounters of the boys’ group, Madhya Pradesh prevailed over Karnataka 15-10, 15-12. Orissa outplayed Punjab 15-5, 15-6. Haryana beat Jammu and Kashmir 15-0, 15-0 and Chhattisgarh defeated Pondicherry 15-8, 15-1.

Earlier, Throwball Association of Bihar (TAB) felicitated Acharya Sudarshan Jee Maharaj and SB Prasad, CMD, Star India Construction for their distinguished contributions to Bihar sports. Throwball Federation of India chairman Naresh Maan felicitated the two dignitaries by presenting them a shawl and silver crown.

Speaking on the occasion, Acharya Sudarshan Jee Maharaj urged the participants to lead a disciplined life for success in every field. “There is no substitute of hard work and there is no short cut to success”, he added.

21st Junior National throwball begins; hosts Bihar off to a flying start

Patna, May 23, 2010: It was a treat to watch the inaugural function of the Acharya Sudarshan 21st Junior National throwball championships at the flood-lit Patna Central School ground here on Sunday. The organizers Throwball Association of Bihar and Patna Central School (PCS) authorities left no stone unturned to make it a memorable one.

Students of PCS and Krishna Niketan presented verities of cultural programmes to mark the occasion. The dance programmes were most captivating as the different participating state teams and the spectators enjoyed the moment.

Bihar’s Art, Culture and Youth Affairs Minister, Renu Devi declared the meet open by releasing balloons. She also took salute of the march past presented by the participating teams.

Addressing the function the minister said she would include throwball in the sports calendar of her department. Bihar’s Information Technology minister Anil Kumar was introduced to the players of Bihar and Rajasthan before the opening match.

Patna Central School (PCS) principal SP Singh welcomed the guests while Throwball Association of Bihar (TAB) secretary Neeraj Kumar Pappu welcomed the guests by presenting bouquet of flowers. PCS vice-principal OP Singh proposed a vote of thanks. Organising committee chairman BK Sudarshan also spoke on the occasion. TAB president SB Prasad presided over the function.

In the on field actions, hosts Bihar got off to a winning start defeating Rajasthan 15-1, 15-4 in a boys’ section league match. In the girls’ section, Delhi tamed West Bengal 15-2, 15-4 to earn full points.

Amitabh Verma elected as Bihar Bridge Association president

Pana, May 19, 2010: Amitabh Verma, IAS, has been elected president of the Bihar Bridge Association (BBA) in the general body meeting of the association here on Sunday. Dilip Sengupta and Kamlesh Singh have been elected secretary and treasurer respectively.

Manoranjan Prasad, working president of the association presided over the meeting.

Patna Super Division football league from May 25

Patna, May 18, 2010: Patna Football Association (PFA) Super Division league will begin at New Police Lines ground and Gandhi Maidan here simultaneously from May 25, according to Rajendra Prasad Yadav, secretary, PFA.

Thirteen teams including BMP Boys, XI Star, Mokama, BSEB, Raj Milk Football Club, Bihar Police, Patna Police, FCI, SBI, Rainbow Football Club, Police Boys, SAI, Centre, BRC and Civil Audit Recreation Club will lock their horns for the league title.

On the opening day, BMP Boys will take on Police Boys Club at Gandhi Maidan and XI Star, Mokama will take on Civil Audit RC at New Police Lines ground.

Arwal win Randhir Verma U-19 cricket trophy

Patna, May 16, 2010: Arwal won the Randhir Verma memorial under-19 inter-district cricket tournament title beating Muzaffarpur by 16 runs in the final at the Sanjay Gandhi Stadium here on Sunday.

Arwal scored up 209 for seven wickets in the stipulated and then restricted Muzaffarpur to 193 for the loss of nine wickets off 30 overs. Rupesh of Arwal made a polished half-century (51). Bipesh (40), Kundan (39), Abhishek (29) and Jitendra (25) were other useful contributors.

Sanky (55), Pawan (38) and Sunny (39) were important scorers for Muzaffarpur. Abhishek captured four wickets for 46 runs. Rakesh Ranjan got two wickets for 36 runs.

Jai Prakash Singh, Public Prosecutor, who was the chief guest in the closing function, gave away the prizes. Bijoy Kumar Narain ‘Chunnu’ was the special guest at the prize-distribution function. Ajay Narayan Sharma, secretary, Bihar Cricket Association proposed a vote of thanks.

Muzaffarpur take on Arwal in U-19 cricket final

Patna, May 14, 2010 : Muzaffarpur will take on Arwal in the Randhir Verma under-19 inter-district cricket tournament final. In the first semi-final, Muzaffarpur outclassed Siwan by six wickets at the Sanjay Gandhi Stadium here on Friday.

In the second semi-finals at Bihta, Arwal beat Jamui by two wickets.

Asked to bat first, Siwan made 153 runs in 30 overs. Sonu (25), Imran Nazir (35) and Manish (27) were main scorers. Akash took four wickets for 20 runs. Ajay grabbed two wickets for 32 runs.

In reply, Muzaffarpur achieved the target in 25.1 overs losing fourwickets. Sanky (48), Ajay (34) and Gautam (26) batted well.

Batting first, Jamui hit up 186 for nine wickets off 30 overs. Karan top scored with 56 runs. Anand and Gautam struck 41 and 18 runs respectively.Kundan and Chandrakant got three wickets each for 24 and 27 runs respectively. Animesh fetched in two wickets for 45 runs.

Needing 187 runs for victory in 30 overs, Arwal slammed the required runs in 28.5 overs for the loss of eight wickets. Mukesh (50 not out), Animesh (33) and Rupesh (25) contributed well to set up a fine win. Vikas and Amarendra bagged two wickets each for 35 and 28 runs respectively.

Bihar junior athletics team named

Patna, May 14, 2010: Ashutosh Kumar will head Bihar team in the 10th Junior National Federation Cup athletic championships to be held at Vizag from May 27 to 29, according to a press release of Bihar Athletic Association.

Siwan, Muzaffarpur move into semifinals

Patna, May 13, 2010: Siwan and Muzaffarpur cruised into the semifinals of the Randhir Verma memorial U-19 inter-district cricket championships here on Thursday.

Siwan trounced Begusarai by 219 runs at Bihta while in another match at Sanjay Gandhi Stadium here, Muzaffarpur routed Bhojpur by 10 wickets.

Batting first Bhojpur made 175 runs for 8 wickets off 30 overs. Saurav (31), Rohit Raj (48) and Santosh (22) were the notable contributors. Ajay captured four wickets for 37 runs. Nishant took two wickets for 27 runs.

In reply, Muzaffarpur reached target without loss. Vikash Ranjan scored a fine unbeaten century (111) while other opener Pawan too remained unbeaten on 45.

Siwan scored 288 in 30 overs. Imran Nazir hit a blazing unbeaten ton (110) with 12 boundaries and 6 sixes. Raj Kumar (54) and Manish Giri (58) were the other useful scorers. Raj Kumar, Arbind and Manish of Begusarai got one wicket each.

In reply, Begusarai managed to score 69 runs off 15.1 overs. Raj Kishore (27) and Deepak (16) were the two important contributors. Manish Giri of Siwan claimed five wickets for 6 runs. Pankaj Mishra and Ravi got two wickets each.

PCS boys and DPS girls clinch basketball titles

Patna, May 13, 2010: Patna Central School (PCS) and Delhi Public School clinched the boys and girls crowns of the first Jitendra Rai memorial inter-school basketball tournament at the Moinul Haq Stadium here on Thursday.

Patna Central School beat St Xavier’s School 34-29 in the final. Delhi Public School outplayed Patna Central School 22-0.

Earlier in boys’ semifinals, PCS beat BD Public School 28-11 while St Xavier’s School downed Oxbridge Convent School 32-27.

In girls final Tanya, Shivangi, Akshara and Samrin played the key role in DPS victory.
In boys’ final, PCS took a commanding 21-14 at the first half. Rajnish, Vipon Minz and Kumar Mayank scored maximum points for PCS while Ashish Toppo and Vikash Sharma played well for St Xavier’s School.
Professor J Rai, gave away the prizes.

International School too good for Litera Valley

Patna, May 11, 2010: International School trounced Litera Valley School 12-0 in a league match of the girls’ section of Jitendra Rai memorial inter-school basketball tournament at Moinul Haq Stadium basketball court here on Tuesday.

International School dominated the proceedings and scored points at their will. Bhavna Singh of International School caged in four points.

In boys’ section, Patna Central School (PCS) got the better of Delhi Public School 21-16.

Jamui send Patna packing in U-19 cricket

Patna, May 10, 2010: Jamui edged out Patna by one wicket in the Randhir Verma memorial under-19 inter-district cricket tournament at the Sanjay Gandhi Stadium here on Monday.

Batting first, Patna made 212 for six wickets off 30 overs. In reply, Jamui reached the target losing nine wickets off 29.5 overs.

In the second match at played at Bihta, Arwal defeated Bhagalpur by the spin of coin as their match ended in a tie. Batting first, Arwal scored 175 runs in 28.2 overs. In reply, Bhagalpur too made 175 runs in 30 overs.
The match was decided by toss in which Arwal captain called it correctly.

DPS Patna girls begin campaign in style

Patna, May 10, 2010: BMP High School boys and Delhi Public School girls won their opening matches in grand fashion in the Jitendra Rai memorial inter-school basketball tournament at the Moinul Haq Stadium here on Monday.

BMP High School outplayed St Xavier’s School 18-9. Varun Kumar and Saurav Kumar of BMP School caged in 8 and 6 points respectively. Ashish of St Xavier’s School scored 9 points.

In the girls’ section, DPS outplayed Litera Valley School 18-0 with Samrin and Akshra making 12 and 6 points respectively.

Earlier Ashwani Kumar Singh, CMD, Ashwani Group inaugurated the tournament. Bihar Players’ Association president Mritunjay Tiwari, Throwball Association of Bihar secretary Neeraj Kumar Pappu, Bihar Basketball Association secretary Shushil Kumar and Mithilesh Kumar were present on the occasion.

Archana Jha bags gold in Jr National boxing

Patna, May 10, 2010: Bihar junior women boxers claimed six medals including one gold in the National sub-junior and junior championships held at Erode (Tamil Nadu) from May 3 to 7.

Boxing Association of Bihar (BAB) secretary Rajiv Kumar Singh said Archana Jha clinched the gold medal in 38-40 kg bout while Varsha Rani won a silver medal in National junior boxing championships.

In the sub-junior categories four Bihar boxers Puja Kumari, Kusum Lata, Rekha Kumari and Priya Singh boxed in bronze medals.

Congratulating the Bihar team members for their grand achievement, Rajiv Kumar said BAB would organize a function to felicitate the pugilists.

BK Sudarshan named chairman of Junior National throwball championships

Patna, May 10, 2010: BK Sudarshan and SB Prasad have been nominated chairman and president of the organising committee for the Acharya Sudarshan 21st Junior National throwball championships to be held at the Patna Central School here from May 23 , according to Niraj Kumar Pappu, secretary, Throwball Association of Bihar.

Easy win for Patna in U-19 cricket

Patna, May 9, 2010: Patna chalked out 56-run win over Saran in the Randhir Verma memorial under-19 inter-district cricket tournament at the Sanjay Gandhi Stadium here on Sunday.

Patna amassed 268 for the loss of six wickets off 30 overs. Shasheem (86), Kumar Rajnish (61) and Aditya (39) showed their batting prowess. Rhoti claimed two wickets.

In reply, Saran made 212 for the loss off six wickets in the stipulated 30 overs. Ravishankar took two wickets.

In the second match at Bihta, Arwal beat Kaimur by 64 runs. Batting first Arwal made 194 for the loss of seven wickets in 30 overs. In reply, Kaimur could manage to score 130 runs.

AITA ranking tennis: Vinod Sewa, Eetee Mehta win singles crowns

Patna, May 8, 2010: It was all about Vinod Sewa of West Bengal playing a tournament here after a gap of 11 years. Then he took very little time to beat Ratish Sridhar in the all-India ranking U-16 tournament.

Today was no different except his age and opponent Prosonjit Paul of Jharkhand, who himself had a very good tournament but was outclassed by Vinod’s experience and surrendered 4-6, 2-6 at the BLTA courts in the P&M Mall AITA ranking tournament.

In women's singles final Eetee Mehta of Gujarat beat her state mate Vaibhavi Trivadi 6-2, 6-2 to win the crown.

Deepak Kumar, sales manager, P&M Mall, gave away the prizes to the winners and runners-up. Dr. Akhouri B. Prasad, secretary BLTA, Shishir Jaiswal, joint secretary, BLTA and Kunal Aikat, chief coach BLTA were present on the occasion.

Patna, May 7, 2010: The penultimate day of seven-day residential coaching camp being conducted under guidance of International Master Varugeese Koshy at Rajendra Nagar here, was full of activities.

Practice, lessons, puzzles, inter-active sessions on middle game positions arose out of standard openings of Queen Pawn, group discussion on the running commentaries of Ficher in his famous book “My Sixty Memorable Games’’ were of great benefit for the trainees to have an idea about how deeply a Grand Master’s mind works and analyses various consequences during the game.

Giving this information Arvind Kumar Sinha, secretary All Bihar Chess Association said that Koshy expressed that he found Bihar players verydisciplined, sincere and eager to learn. He hoped that All Bihar Chess Association would provide proper platform for practice of the players by arranging official Bihar Open tournaments.

As per the syllabus, entire evening session a full period of discussion was held on various openings based on Queen’s Pawn and King Pawn and the c-4 openings such as English Opening and Reti Opening.

Bhojpur clinch Shyamal Sinha U-16 cricket trophy

Patna, May 6, 2010: Bhojpur chalked out an imposing five-wicket win over Siwan to clinch Shyamal Sinha memorial inter-district U-16 cricket tournament title at the Sanjay Gandhi Stadium here on Thursday.

Batting first Siwan scored a paltry 106 runs off 29.5 overs. Onlythree batsmen Nadim, Saddam and Satish could reach the double figures in an otherwise dismal batting performance by Siwan.

Sonu wrecked Siwan innings capturing 4 wickets for 16 runs. Arvind took 3 wickets for 29 runs while Rajnish baggd three wickets for 10 runs.

In reply, Bhojpur hit up the required runs in 26.5 overs losing 5 wickets. Shashi (26), Mithilesh (21) and Saurav (19) were the main contributors. Saddam got two wickets for 19 runs while Satish and Vishal earned onewicket each.

Arun Kumar Sinha, joint secretary, Bihar State Electricity Board, who was the chief guest at the closing function, gave away the prizes. Bihar Cricket Association (BCA) secretary Ajay Narayn Sharma, vice-president Sada Nand Prasad, treasurer Ravi Shankar Prasad and BCCI panel umpire Ravi Shankar were present on the occasion.

Bihar sub-jr powerlifting from May 22

Patna, May 6, 2010: Bihar Powerlifting Association will organise Sub-junior and deadliftpowerlifting championships at Manoranjan Panchayat Bhawan, Patna City from May 22 to 23, according to Bihar Powerlifting Association secretary Ashok Kumar Mehta.

He said Mr Hercules of Bihar and Bihar Open bodybuilding championships would also be organized during the meet. He said top finishers of the meet would represent Bihar in the Sub-Junior National and Eastern India powerlifting championships to be held in Ranchi from June 8 to 12.

Prosonjit Paul upsets top seed Manoj Sewa

Patna, May 6, 2010: Prosonjit Paul of Jharkand upset top seed Manoj Sewa of West Bengal 7-5, 6-1 in the men’s singles quarterfinals of the P&M Mall AITA ranking tennis tournament at Bihar Lawn Tennis Association courts here on Thursday.

Manoj’s elder brother Vinod Sewa, however, stormed into the semifinalsdefeating his state-mate Farid Alam 6-3, 6-3.

Local lad Devpriya Jaiswal faced a shocking defeat in hands of Chandrashekhar Mohanty of Assam in the men’s singles quarterfinals. Both the players had no choice but to push their body to the limits on the clay courts here which is famous for its long rallies.

In women’s singles Shilpi Jaiswal reached the semifinals defeating Tanya Hasan 6-0, 6-1. There was nothing that Taniya could do to counter Shilpi’s game. Shilpi’s younger sister Shruti hammered Sirohi to enter the semifinals.

Bhojpur face Siwan in Shyamal Sinha cricket final

Patna , May 5, 2010: Bhojpur moved into the final of the Shyamal Sinha memorial under-16
inter-district cricket tournament through spin of coin as their semi-final match against Begusarai ended in a tie at the Sanjay Gandhi Stadium here on Wednesday.
Bhojpur will face Siwan in the final.

Electing to bat first, Begusarai scored 189 for eight wickets off 30 overs. Mehraj Alam top scored with 61 runs. Saif Ali and Ram Kumar made 22 and 29 runs respectively. Prashant and A Husain both claimed three wickets each.

In reply, Bhojpur made 189 all out off 28.3 overs. Saurav Kumar (44) and Santosh Kumar (24) came good with the bat. Mehraj Alam took five wickets for 22 runs.

In the second semi-final at Bihta, Siwan beat Jehanabad by four wickets.Batting first, Jehanabad made 142 all out in 29.3 overs.
In reply, Siwan raced to the target in 27.2 overs for six wickets.

Professional approach is must for chess: Koshy

Patna, May 4, 2010: International Master Varugeese Koshy advocated the need to inculcate professional approach towards the game of chess on the third day of ongoing 7-day Residential Chess Training Camp at RBI residential premises at Rajendra Nagar, here on Tuesday.

Bihar players lack this quality because of least home preparation, this was discovered when the trainees were asked to write correct continuation of moves in several middle-game positions. Koshy’s illustration of standard drawn positions followed by categoricaldiscussion on “Bahr’s 7 golden rules’’ on Pawn at the Rook file, method of counting of tempi in the end-game and thus ascertaining the ratio of advantage between the side with extra pawn and the defender’s side were unique lesions to our players.

Giving this information Arvind Kumar Sinha, secretary All Bihar Chess Association said that the evening session started up with lessons on “covering your weaknesses and exposing opponent’s’’.
Koshy illustrated several exercises of Mark Dortoyvsky, who was trainer of Garry Kasparoy and discussed teachings of Grand Master Arthur Yusupov on the topic. Koshy was greatly satisfied to have from the trainees about 45 per cent correct continuations with little effort, he added.

On the second day the training session witnessed tough tussle among the trainees fighting a given middle game positions to achieve a potentially favourable end-game position under the able guidance of international master Varugeese Koshy.

After the theoretical discussions on the typical games played by the Grandmasters in the morning session, Koshy illustrated the pre-conditions required for one opting exchange of heavy pieces and transiting towards the end game.

In the evening session of the day, several standard end-positions were analysed to formulate the strategy adopted by the great masters of the past.

Arvind Kumar Sinha, FIDE master and secretary, All Bihar Chess Association said that Koshy was satisfied with the positional understanding of Bihar players and he hoped magical enhancement in their performance in the coming nationals.

Ritika upsets Sneha in AITA ranking tourney

Patna, May 4, 2010: Promising Patna girl Ritika Ranjan upset seventh seed Sneha Shaw of West Bengal 6-3, 6-4 to move into the second round of the P and M Mall AITA ranking tennis tournament at the Bihar Lawn Tennis Association (BLTA) courts here on Tuesday.

Local lad Devpriya Jaiswal also moved into the second round in men’s singles toppling upset Rahul Gupta of Uttar Pradesh 6-0, 6-0.

Patna siblings Shilpi and Shruti Jaiswal had no hiccups to advance into the second round of the women’s singles.

The day’s biggest upset was top seed Seema Kumari (Delhi), who was shown the door by Richa Sirohi (UP) 1-6, 0-6.

Bhojpur too good for East Champaran

Patna, May 3, 2010: Bhojpur earned 45-run win over East Champaran in the Shyamal Sinha memorial under-16 inter-district cricket tournament at the Sanjay Gandhi Stadium here on Monday.

In the second match at Bihta, Begusarai beat Saran by 16 runs.

East Champaran put Bhojpur to bat first after winning the toss. Bhojpur scored 185 for nine wickets off 30 overs. Saurav top scored with 70 runs. Govind Shankar and Ravi Kumar made 23 and 29 runs respectively. Prashant and A Husain claimed two wickets each.

In reply, East Champaran could score 140 runs in 28 overs. Sumeet Gautam (21) and Gaurav Suman (32) were notable scorers. Rajnish, Ashish, Abhishek and Govind all took two wickets each. Begusarai made 120 runs in 28.1 overs. Sunny contributed 43 runs. Rohit took three wickets. Viren bagged two wickets.

Needing 121 runs to win, Saran scored 104 all out off 23.5 overs. Medium pacer Raj Kumar claimed six wickets for 19 runs only. Sakeer was the only batsman to reach the double figures (31).

Bihar junior throwball probables announced

Ved, Aditi, Samir, Pankaj and Harsh win APWAD school chess titles

Patna, May 2, 2010: Ved Prakash and Aditi Arya claimed the coveted boys under-16 and girls’ under-14 crowns respectively in the APWAD inter-school mastermind chess championships at the Moinul Haq Stadium here on Saturday.

Samir Sengar won the boys’ under-14 title while Pankaj Kumar and Kumar Harsh clinched the boys’ under-12 and under-10 titles respectively.

Throwball Federation of India joint secretary Neeraj Kumar ‘Pappu’, Dr Shiv Narayan Singh volleyball tournament secretary Dr Sunil Kumar Singh, Walk & Talk managing director Siddhartha Jain and Commerce Coaching director Mithilesh Tiwari jointly gave away the prizes and cash awards.

Ravindra Rai, president, Association for People’s Welfare and Development (APWAD) welcomed the guests and tournament director Rakesh Ranjan proposed a vote of thanks.

Siwan edge out Saharsa in Shyamal Sinha U-16 inter-district cricket

Patna, April 30, 2010: Siwan edged out Saharsa by 29 runs in the Shyamal Sinha memorial under-16 inter-district cricket tournament at the Sanjay GandhiStadium here on Friday.

Batting first Siwan made 164 for five wickets in the stipulated 30 overs. Satish Kumar (39), Nishant Kumar (32) and Urfan Khan (28) came good with the bat. Ritesh, Nishant and Saurav all grabbed one wicket each.

In reply, Saharsa could manage to score 135 runs off 21.2 overs. Ritesh (33), Samir Raj (29) and Ziauddin (24) showed some fight against Siwan bowling attack. Sabbir Khan took three wickets for 18 runs. Danish and Prakash both captured two wickets each.

In another match, Jehanabad beat Bhagalpur by 45 runs at Bihta ground. Batting first, Jehanabad scored 130 runs. Akash top scored with 45 runs. Gulam claimed three wickets for 30 runs. Sunil and Rahul both bagged two wickets each.

Chasing 131 to win, Bhagalpur crashed to 85 all out in 24 overs. Himanshu made 25 runs. Mannauar, DK Roy and Jyoti all cinched two wickets each.

Patna, April 29, 2010: Siwan handed a crushing 110-run defeat on Patna in the Shyamal Sinha memorial under-16 inter-district cricket tournament at the Sanjay Gandhi Stadium here on Thursday.

Brief scores: Siwan: 213 all out in 30 overs (Sonu Kumar Gupta-108, Imran Nazir-65, Chakrabarty Rohit, Abhijit, Saket and Kushagra Mani took 1 wicket each).Patna: 103 all out in 21.2 overs (Aman-21, Anmol Boni-19, Manish-3/19, Danish and Prakash took 2 wickets each).

In boys’ U-10 section, Vir Sharma (St Karen’s School), Rishik Anand (Litera Valley School, Shivang Aryan, Kumar Harsh and Kumar Sambhav shared the lead with three points each.

In boys’ U-12 group, three players Ashwani Arya, AA Anwar and Ishan Karusnesh were leading the points tally with three points to their credits.

Saharsa prevail over Banka

Patna, April 28, 2010: Saharsa prevailed over Banka by four wickets in the Shyamal Sinha memorial under-16 inter-district cricket tournament at the Sanjay Gandhi Stadium here on Wednesday.

Batting first, Banka made 184 runs off 29.3 overs. Kshitij (43), Rohit (41) and Shivam (34) came good with the bat. Nishant and Vishnu both took three wickets each for 24 and 41 runs respectively.

In reply, Saharsa collected the required runs off 26.5 overs losing six wickets. Manish scored 80 runs. Akash and Prakash made 37 and 20 runs respectively. Rohit claimed four wickets for 37 runs.

In other match of the day, Bhagalpur got a walk-over against Katihar.

Minu, Smita called for National kabaddi camp

Patna, April 28, 2010: Minu Kumari Singh and Smita Kumari (both from East Central Railway, Hajipur) have been called by the Amateur Kabaddi Federation of India to join the coaching camp for the Indian team probables.

The coaching camp will be held at SAI Centre, Mumbai, from May 5, according to a Press release of the East Central Railway, Hajipur.

Bhojpur earn 44-run win over Nalanda

Patna, April 27, 2010: Bhojpur earned 44-run win over Nalanda in the Randhir Verma memorial under-19 inter-district cricket tournament in Ara on Tuesday, according to information reached here.

Batting first Bhojpur scored 200 for nine wickets off 30 overs. Santosh and Saurabh made 56 and 54 runs respectively. Md Gulfan and Pramod both took two wickets each.

In reply, Nalanda could manage to score 156 for nine wickets off 30 overs. Aman was top scored with 67 runs. Harsh Raj bagged three wickets. Sonu and Abhishek both captured two wickets each.

Other results: Muzaffarpur defeated Samastipur by four wickets at Samastipur and Bhagalpur bt Purnia by one wicket at Bhagalpur.

P&M Mall AITA tennis tournament from May 3

Patna, May 1, 2010: P&M Mall AITA Tennis Championships for men and women will be held at the Patluputra Colony courts here from May 3 to 8.

The top seed in the men’s event, Manoj Sewa of West Bengal confirmed his participation. Patna, April 24, 2010: Patna chalked out a big 177-run win over Buxar in their first match of the Shyamal Sinha memorial under-16 inter-district cricket tournament at the Sanjay Gandhi Stadium here on Saturday.

Batting first, Patna made 244 for seven wickets off 30 overs. Vibhakar scored an unbeaten century (104 not out, 13x4, 4x6).

In reply, Buxar could manage to score 67 runs. Nikhil Singh took five wickets for nine runs.

Earlier, Arun Kumar Sinha, MLA inaugurated the tournament. The tournament is being organized by Bihar Cricket Association.

Patna, April 24, 2010: International School beat hosts St Michael’s High School bu six wickets in the opening match of 12th Father Arrupe memorial inter-school T20 cricket tournament at the St Michael’s ground here on Saturday.

Batting first, St Michael’s made 109 for six wickets off 20 overs. Jayant top scored with 59 runs.

In reply, International reached the target losing four wickets. Sumit (35) and Gaurav (26) were the useful contributors.

EC Railway men and Patna women clinch Veer Kuer Singh Gold Cup

Patna, April 23, 2010: East Central Railway won Veer Kuer Singh Gold Cup kabaddi tournament defeating Bihar Police 48-12 in the final at the Moinul Haq Stadium here on Friday.

Patna claimed the women’s crown beating Begusarai 26-23.

Men’s final was a one-sided affair as East Central Railway players Narendra, Sunil, Sanjeev and Vijay displayed impressive performance in all department of the game. For Bihar Police international Ramjee Upadhyaya, Ravi and Janamjay Mishra performed well.

Women’s final was an exciting one as both the teams struggled hard to collect points. Patna women Naglaxmi, Smita, Minu and Manisha performed well in raids while Begusarai girls Devyanti, Sinku, Remi and Preeti showed their skills in catching.

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar was the chief guest at the closing function and he gave away the prizes. Food and Civil Supply Minister Narendra Singh, Labour Minister Awadhesh Narayan Singh, Disaster Management Minister Devesh Chandra Thakur, Bihar JD-U president Vijay Kumar Choudhary, fromer minister Ashok Kumar Singh, Shyam Rajak and Vashishtha Narayan Singh were present on the occasion.

Patna, April 21, 2010: East Central Railway (ECR) thrashed Muzaffarpur 64-13 in the inaugural match of the Veer Kuer Singh Gold Cup kabaddi tournament at the Moinul Haq Stadium here on Wednesday.

In the women’s section, Bhojpur beat East Champaran 43-6.

Earlier, Bihar government’s Human Resource Development secretary Anjani Kumar Singh inaugurated the championship in a colourful function. He was also introduced toparticipating players. Smita earns a grand double in school TT

Patna, April 19, 2010: Smita Ravi of St Michael’s School claimed a grand double in the NMIT inter-school table tennis tournament, winning sub-junior and junior girls’ singles titles at the Bihar Young Men’s Institute here on Monday.

Smita Ravi beat Varsha Bhagyasri 11-7, 11-8, 6-11, 11-9 in the sub-junior girls’ singles final. She again prevailed over Varsha 11-7, 11-5, 4-11, 11-7 in the junior girls’ singlesfinal.

Rahul Kumar of Patna Central School clinched the junior boys’ singles title beating Amit Kumar of Holy Mission 13-11, 15-13, 11-13, 6-11, 16-14 in a evenly matched contest.

Piyush D Gandhi and Rahul Praksh won the junior boys’ doubles title defeating Rahul Kumar and Ankit Kumar 11-4, 11-6, 3-11 and 11-7.

PCS clinch inter-school TT title

Patna, April 17, 2010: Patna Central School (PCS) boys claimed the NMIT inter-school table tennis team championship title defeating Delhi Public School (DPS), Patna 3-0 at the Bihar Young Men’s Institute here on Saturday.

In the sub-junior boys’ singles evennt Amit Kumar (Holy Mission School), Tushar Kanti Das (Loyola High School), Gagan Nir (Loyola HS) and Saurav Kumar of Patna Central School entered the semi-finals.

Aditya Umang (St Xavier’s School), Rishutosh Kumar (Christ Church School), SagarKumar and Ayush Adarsh (both St Michael’s School) advanced into the semi-finals of the cadet boys’ singles event.

Muzaffarpur win Hayman Cup

Patna, April 12, 2010: Muzaffarpur won the Hayman Cup senior division inter-district cricket tournament title defeating Katihar by ten wickets at the Sanjay Gandhi Stadium here on Monday.

Katihar won the toss and elected to bat first. Katihar made 190 runs in 32.1 overs. Nilesh Kumar (58, 9x4, 1x6), Arjun Yadav (21, 4x4) and Rama Shankar (37, 5x4, 2x6) excelled with the bat. Sarfaraz took three wickets.

Needing 191 runs for victory in 35 overs, Muzaffapur opening pair of Pawan and Vikash played blazing knocks and guided their side to thumping win. Pawan (88, 12x4,1x6) and Vikash Ranjan (79, 10x4) remained unbeaten.

Chief guests Vinod Kumar and Ajay Kumar Singh jointly distributed the prizes. AjayNarayan Sharma, secretary, Bihar Cricket Association (BCA) proposed a vote of thanks.
