Ritika upsets Sneha in AITA ranking tourney

Patna, May 4, 2010: Promising Patna girl Ritika Ranjan upset seventh seed Sneha Shaw of West Bengal 6-3, 6-4 to move into the second round of the P and M Mall AITA ranking tennis tournament at the Bihar Lawn Tennis Association (BLTA) courts here on Tuesday.

Local lad Devpriya Jaiswal also moved into the second round in men’s singles toppling upset Rahul Gupta of Uttar Pradesh 6-0, 6-0.

Patna siblings Shilpi and Shruti Jaiswal had no hiccups to advance into the second round of the women’s singles.

The day’s biggest upset was top seed Seema Kumari (Delhi), who was shown the door by Richa Sirohi (UP) 1-6, 0-6.

Women’s singles pre-quarter-finals: Shruti Jaiswal (Bihar) beat Shweta Kumari (Bihar) 6-0,6-0, Richa Sirohi (UP) beat Seema Kumari (Delhi) 6-1,6-0, Eeti Mehta (Gujarat) beat Omlata Rai (UP) 6-4,6-1, Ritika Ranjan (Bihar) beat Sneha Shaw (WB) 6-3,6-4, Shilpi Jaiswal (Bihar) beat Madhu Jaiswal (Bihar) 6-1,6-0.
