Prosonjit Paul upsets top seed Manoj Sewa

Patna, May 6, 2010: Prosonjit Paul of Jharkand upset top seed Manoj Sewa of West Bengal 7-5, 6-1 in the men’s singles quarterfinals of the P&M Mall AITA ranking tennis tournament at Bihar Lawn Tennis Association courts here on Thursday.

Manoj’s elder brother Vinod Sewa, however, stormed into the semifinalsdefeating his state-mate Farid Alam 6-3, 6-3.

Local lad Devpriya Jaiswal faced a shocking defeat in hands of Chandrashekhar Mohanty of Assam in the men’s singles quarterfinals. Both the players had no choice but to push their body to the limits on the clay courts here which is famous for its long rallies.

In women’s singles Shilpi Jaiswal reached the semifinals defeating Tanya Hasan 6-0, 6-1. There was nothing that Taniya could do to counter Shilpi’s game. Shilpi’s younger sister Shruti hammered Sirohi to enter the semifinals.

Results: Men’s singles quarterfinals: Prosonjit Paul beat Manoj Sewa 7-5, 6-1; Vinod Sewa beat Farid Alam 6-3, 6-3, Kshitij Kamal beat Robin Das 6-4, 5-7, 6-3, Chandrashekhar Mohanty beat Devpriya Jaiswal 7-5, 6-4.

Women’s singles quarterfinals: Shilpi Jaiswal beat Ttaniya Hasan 6-0, 6-1, Eetee Hehta beat Supriya Mallaya 6-1, 6-1, Vaibhavi Trivadi beat Ritika Ranjan 6-0, 6-1and Shruti Jaiswal beat Rricha Sirohi 6-1, 6-2
