Hockey Maharashtra cruise into semifinals


New Delhi, April 14, 2014: Hockey Maharashtra edged out the hosts Mumbai Hockey Association Ltd 2-1 in Pool A and entered the semifinals of the 3rd Hockey India Sub-Junior Women National Championship (West Zone) here on Sunday.

Alaknanda Bagadi scored opening goal for Hockey Maharastra in the 40th minute. Mumbai Hockey Association Ltd equalized the score in the 64th minute but second goal scored by Alaknanda helped Hockey Maharashtra win their last league match.

Madhya Pradesh Hockey Academy, who topped Pool A, had already qualified for semi-finals.

In Pool B Rajasthan defeated Chhattisgarh 3-1 while Goa beat Gujarat 2-0.

Both Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh are through to the semifinals. Semi-finals will be played on Monday.

Pool A- Hockey Maharashtra 2 (Alaknanda Bagadi 40, 69) beat Mumbai Hockey Association Ltd 1 (Jemimah Rodrigues 64)

Pool B – Rajasthan 3 (Rachna Challan 16, Tanya Singla 21 and Aarti 64) beat Chhattisgarh 1 (Disha Nagvanshi 30)

Goa 2 (Maheshwari Haldankar 49, Tannia Dsouza 57 ) beat Gujarat 0.
