Hockey India League mourns Ponty Chadha’s death

NEW DELHI, November 18, 2012: Hockey India and Hockey India League today condoled the death of Wave Group Chairman and Managing Director Gurdeep Singh ‘Ponty’ Chadha who had emerged as one of Indian hockey’s most enthusiastic backers.

“Our prayers are with Mr Chadha’s family and the Wave Group,” Hockey India Secretary-General and Hockey India League Chairman Dr Narinder Batra said.

“We were looking forward to drawing from Mr Chadha’s infectious enthusiasm as the helmsman of the Delhi franchise of the Hockey India League,” Dr Batra said, recalling Mr Chadha’s excitement when they met to finalise Wave Group as the Delhi franchise of Hockey India League.

“Mr Chadha kept talking about his roots in Uttar Pradesh and how the State has been a nursery for hockey from the legendary Dhyan Chand’s days and how he was keen to help India regain its pride of place,” he said.
