Shiva Keshavan concludes successful training at Sochi

Sochi, Russia, November 14, 2012: Winter is approaching and the 2012-13 Luge World Cup circuit has begun.over 130 athletes from 30 countries will participate in this year's circuit in preparation for the 2014 Olympic Games to be held in Sochi, Russia.

The first International Training Week on the Olympic track came to an end today. India was represented by four time Olympian Shiva Keshavan, who showed excellent form by topping his group in 29 runs out of 30.
"Training in Sochi has been fun. Though I had an easy group, I am happy with the results and I look forward to the World Cup final on this track later on this winter", said Shiva

The Track in Sochi is perhaps currently the best in the world for many reasons. It is a total length of 1.8 kilometres (standard tracks range from 1.3 to 1.5 kms), making it the longest track in the world. The highest speed achievable is 135 kmph, which is now considered a safe bet in the luge world. There are 3 uphill curves, which does not leave margin for error in this gravity sport.

The first World Cup competition will begin next week in Innsbruck, Austria, where Asian Champion Shiva Keshavan is aiming for a spot in the finals. 'It is important for me to perform well in this pre-Olympic year, and thanks to my sponsors MTS, Coca Cola India and Olympic Gold Quest, I have been able to improve my condition and I have new equipment I am eager to try", said Shiva from Sochi.

Shiva, who is in an intense training program with his Coach, French Olympian Yann Fricheteau, has been recommended for Government  support by IOA Secretary General Mr. Randhir Singh, and Indian Amateur Luge Association (IALA) President Deepa Mehta.
