Indian table tennis team to play in Germany


New Delhi, October 3, 20121: A 10-member Indian table tennis team, comprising reigning national champion Anthony Amalraj and Achanta Sharath Kamal, will participate in the GAC Group ITTF World Tour German Open to be held at Bremen (Germany) between October 31 and November 4.  

Since some of the players are already in Sweden playing the European circuit, they will join those who left for Bremen in the wee hours on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the Table Tennis Federation of India has sent four junior boys—Utkarsh Gupta, Abhishek Yadav, Sabhya Virmani and Sudhanshu Grover—accompanied by coach Kamlesh Mehta to Falkenberg (Sweden) for training under the ITTF WFIM project.  The training is in preparation for the forthcoming World Junior Table Tennis Championships to be held at Hyderabad from December 9 to 16.

Under the scheme, the ITTF has made all arrangements with the Falkenberg centre while the air passage cost has been provided by the Sports Authority of India.

The squad that will represent India at the youth event in Germany is: Boys: Soumyajit Ghosh, Harmeet Desai, G. Sathiyan, Sourav Saha, A. Sharath Kamal, A. Amalraj, Nitin Thiruvengadam and Nishad Bharat Shah.
Girls: Mallika Bhandarkar and Nikhat Banu.
Coaches: Sunil Babras and Monalisa Mehta.
