Pune, November 3, 2012: Nidhi Chilumula and Anushka
Bhargava scored easy wins to move into the final round qualifying of
the Sanjay Kakade Group Royal Indian Open WTA Challenger being
organised by Netsurf Entertainment and played at the Shivaji Chatrapathi Sports
Complex at Balewadi in Pune.
In the first round qualifying Nidhi Chilumula who
entered the event as an onsite alternate got the better of Zainab Ali
Sajjad 6-0, 6-1, while Anushka Bhargava put out a much
seasoned but injury prone Shivika Burman 7-5, 6-3.
In the final round qualifiers Wildcard Rishika
Sunkara will take on another Indian Ankita Raina ensuring a place
for at least one Indian in the main draw, Nidhi Chilumula
will take on Emily Webley-Smith , while Slovakian Andrea Klepac
will take on Anushka Bhargava, in the final match Korean Su
Jeong Jang will take on Australian Stephanie Bengson for a spot in the
main draw.
Meanwhile the organisors have awarded the doubles wildcard
to Olympian Rushmi Chakravarthy and Ankita Raina. The main draws will be held tomorrow.
