Punjab, Chandigarh and MPHA enter quarterfinals


SONEPAT, October 3, 2012: Defending champion Madhya Pradesh Hockey Academy (MPHA), Chandigarh and Punjab entered the quarterfinals of 2nd Hockey India Junior Women National Championship at the Motilal Nehru School of Sports, Rai, winning hard-fought matches in their respective pools on Wednesday.

Punjab registered its third consecutive win against Uttrakhand 10-0 to qualify from Pool G.  Kulwinder Kaur and Anu Bala topped the scorers’ list with three goals each followed by Gurjit Kaur (2), Navjot Kaur (1) and Paramjit Kaur (1).

Madhya Pradesh Hockey Academy topped Pool A with a 10-0 win over Andhra Pradesh while Chandigarh registered its third win in Pool C against Bihar 4-0 to qualify for the quarterfinals.

Pool A: Madhya Pradesh Hockey Academy 10 (Shivani Singh 8, 35; Diksha Tiwari 18; Priyanka Chandrawat 23; Reena Kataria 26; Priyanka Wankhede 36; Reena Khokhar 50, 59; Niharika Saxena 65,  67) beat Andhra Pradesh 0.

Pool C: Chandigarh 4 (Hardeep Kaur 6; Karishma Singh 9; Manjeet Rawal 10, 20) beat Bihar 0. Kerala 10 (Mathulya T 13,16, 24, 39, 42, 58; Bijina V 29; Suchithra C 43, 58; Aiswaraya K 48) beat Assam 0.

Pool E: Maharashtra 7 (Pooja Bhoyar 22, 43, 47, 56; Pratiksha Harne 49; Nikhat Shaikh 65; Krishna Patel 69) beat Goa 0.

Pool G: Punjab 10 ( Gurjit Kaur 11, 28; Kulwinder Kaur 13, 15, 20; Navjot Kaur 37; Pramjit Kaur 45; Anu Bala 46, 50,64) beat Uttrakhand 0.
