Singh was welcomed by the senior officers of the Ministry.
Immediately after assuming charge, he had a detailed meeting with the sports secretary
and discussed various issues concerning the department.
While briefing the media after assumption of office, Singh
said “Mr Ajay Maken has done a great job as a Sports Minister and I am going to
carry forward his good work”. Keeping in view the 50 percent of youth
population in the country, he said that this Ministry have tremendous outreach
and can deliver a lot especially connecting the young people belonging to
North-East, Jammu & Kashmir and Naxal affected areas.
On the question of implementation of National Sports Code,
he said “I will take everyone on board and dominance should be on sportsmen and
sports”. He also stressed the need for transparency and accountability in the
working of organizations.
Born on June 12, 1971, Jitendra Singh was earlier Minister
of State in the Ministry of Home Affairs.
