IOA grants provisional affiliation to Indian Amateur Luge Association

New Delhi, October 19, 2012: With India gearing up towards sport and the various avenues it offers, there is some welcome news in the field of Winter Sports as well. The Indian Olympic Association granted provisional affiliation to 5 national Federations following a Special General Body Meeting held yesterday.

The Indian Amateur Luge Association was among the first to be affiliated, much to the relief of Shiva Keshavan, India's 4-time Olympian and Asian Champion. Shiva is currently training and will represent India in 6 World Cups and the Asia Cup, in which he will be defending his Title.

The advantages of the affiliation include recognition from the Government of India, voting rights in IOA related matters and smoother support mechanisms for the athletes. Among the pioneers for reform towards development of sport is 5 time Olympian and IOA General Secretary Raja Randhir Singh.

This also come at a time when the future Indian Luge team is currently being trained under Shiva Keshavan, consisting of 4 talented youth, who will be training in Germany and Japan this winter sporting season.

According to Shiva Keshavan, 'I am extremely happy with this move by the Indian Olympic Association, something that we have been waiting many years for. This paves the way not only for me as a performing athlete, but also for all future athletes.'
