Bihar women blank Assam 21-0 but fail to qualify for quarterfinals

Bhopal, October 19, 2012: Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and Jharkhand completed the quarterfinal line-up with emphatic victories in the concluding league matches of 2nd Hockey India Senior Women National Championship here on Friday.

The quarter-final line-up is holders Railways vs Uttar Pradesh (7am), Haryana vs Chandigarh (9:30 am), Odisha vs Jharkhand (5 pm) and Madhya Pradesh Hockey Academy vs Punjab (7:30 pm). All the four matches will be played on Sunday at Aish Bagh Hockey Stadium.

Four goals by Navjot Kaur helped Haryana entered the quarterfinals, with a huge 22-0 win over Andhra Pradesh in their concluding league game of Pool B at Major Dhyan Chand Stadium. Navjot Kaur was given player of the match award for her contribution in team’s victory. Navneet Kaur (3), Ramandeep Kaur (3), Jaswinder Kaur (2), Udita (2), Jaspreet Kaur (2), Harpreet Kaur (2), Anshul (1), Kiran Dahiya (1), Manjeet Kaur (1) and Anju Dhiman (1) are the other goal scorers for Haryana.   

Uttar Pradesh also booked their berth in the quarter-finals, defeating Bengal 13-0 in their last league match of Pool H. Deepika Sharma who scored maximum number of five goals was given player of the match award.

Punjab defeated Jammu & Kashmir 18-0 to make the quarter-finals from Pool-D. Sadhna Singh who scored six goals for Punjab topped the score list followed by Amandeep Kaur (3), Shikha Batta (3), Ramandeep Kaur (2), Sukhmanjit Kaur (1), Preety Sunila Kiro (1), Gurwant Kaur(1) and Sandeep Kaur (1).

Bihar also finished their campaign in Pool F defeating Assam 21-0 while Delhi beat Tripura 8-0 in their last league match of Pool H.

Pool D: Punjab 18 (Sadhna Singh 10th, 12th, 23rd, 24th, 49th, 61st; Amandeep Kaur 16th, 38th, 60th; Sukhmanjit Kaur 19th; Ramandeep Kaur 21st, 53rd; Shikha Batta 28th, 32nd,36th;  Gurwant Kaur 31st, Preety Sunila Kiro 55th; Sandeep Kaur 63rd) beat Jammu & Kashmir 0.

Pool H: Uttar Pradesh 13 (Kavita Mourya 6th, 43rd, 51st; Kajal Malik 12th; Soni Singh 26th; Deepika Sharma 26th, 27th, 31st, 38th, 57th; Poonam Giri 16th; Anusha Aggarwal 60th; Pratibha Choudhary 65th) beat Bengal 0.

Delhi 8 (Jasleen 1st, 6th; Jyoti 16th; Jaishree 23rd; Teena 25th; Sneh 59th; Sarita Rani 63rd; Gayatri 64th) beat Tripura 0.

Pool F: Bihar 21 (Reena 4th, 6th, 26th, 53rd, 54th; Dolly Kumari 7th, 24th, 27th, 29th, 47th, 61st, 65th, 68th; Priti Singh 18th, 22nd, 69th; Jyoti Pandey 32nd; Manjari Pandey 44th, 45th; Madhu Kumari 48th , 49th) beat Assam 0.
