Patna, February 22, 2010: Patna struggled hard to down a fighting Kaimur by 28 runs in the Chief Minister Cup cricket tournament (Patna zone) at the Moinul Haq Stadium here on Monday.
Asked to bat first, Patna could manage to score 131 runs off 32.1 overs. Patna skipper and former Bihar Ranji Trophy batsman, Prabhat Kumar played defiant knock of 62 runs in an otherwise dismal show by his teammates. Prabhat hit six boundaries and one six. Anant Prakash, a former Bihar Ranji Trophy batsman made only 12 runs.
Kaimur boys bowled fairly well to restrict Patna to a modest total. Vikas was the pick among the bowlers claiming three wickets for 17 runs. Sumeet Pandey got two wickets for 19 runs. Vishal and Yaswant bagged one wicket apiece.
In reply, Patna bowlers too showed their guts and discipline to bundle out Kaimur for 103 runs off 30.3 overs. Wasim (14), Murli (12) and Akash (26, 2x4, 2x6) were the main contributors. Prabhat Kumar and Vivek Singh took three wickets each for 14 and 19 runs respectively. Anant Prakash grabbed two wickets for eight runs.
In a match of Bhagalpur zone, Munger carved out five-wicket victory over Banka at Bhagalpur. Batting first, Banka made 117 runs in 31 overs. In reply, Munger reached the target off 29.4 overs losing five wickets.
